Predictive WS

Hi,

Another little detail, but I'd like to know if this comes from a misunderstanding on my side or a slight mistake in the sim's logic :

We are talking about the predictive wind shear system. The manual states that it is enabled in 3 cases, notably when on the ground either with T/O thrust set or with WXR set on the EFIS.

What I did was setting WS on track while the aircraft was lined up, and the result was surprising : no WS detected on WXR (waiting for about 1minute), but as soon as T/O thrust was set, WS warning arrises with correct depiction on the ND.
From what I had understood from the manual I was expecting to have the WS depicted already after a few sweep on WXR, even at idle ?

What do you think ?

Regards

Wx is a 'simple' display feature, PWS is a full warning with mandatory reactions by the pilots required (ie for the TO case, it is one of the very few reasons to abort above 80kts). For the warning to be activated, the aircraft has to know it really is threatened by the danger, hence the thrust levers need to be in the takeoff zone for the takeoff situation.

During taxi in bad weather we use the weather radar on the ground to get a visual picture of what is surrounding us (as far as possible). You would possibly get spurious PWS warnings leading to ridiculous procedures and administrative explanations for nothing.

Allright, I can see what you mean and it definitely makes sense now... many thanks for the detailed answer !
