SwitchPSX? It's the new name for SimSwitch!

John Golin has updated his AdaptPSX to beta version 2.6.

He has also renamed SimSwitch to SwitchPSX and updated it to beta version 2.6.

These can be downloaded from my site.

Thanks Garry!

Changes are as follows:

AdaptPSX:
Can specify the number of blank lines to append to a printout - useful to feed the paper far enough out of a receipt printer to just tear it off.

SwitchPSX:

Many, many bug fixes.
- SwitchPSX would create a connection storm to PSX when trying to reconnect - fixed.
- Many other stability improvements and optimisations
- Improved passing of variables to clients on first connection
- Clicking the client number in the list provides an option to kill the client connection

We are running both Adapt and Switch at WorldFlight and they have proven to be robust and reliable.

There is still a bug where both programs do not minimise on start - I have this fixed in the next build, just waiting on more issues and feedback before the next update.

Thanks again Garry!
John Golin.

Hi John and Garry!

Thanks a lot for the updates... I'll give AdaptPSX a try with the new "add lines after printout" feature tonight: sure it will solve the "missing last line feed"bug!
Yesterday, I thought I had found a bug... as the "refuelling" (pinkish) paper doesn't get printed on the airplane's printer... but it from the fuel supplier and is likely to come directly "hand to hand"!

I'm intruiged by the GPS NMEA output to a serial port ability. What could you use that for?

Pierre Theillere

Hi GodAtum,

Serial NMEA GPS output can be useful to "fool" real-world GPS stuff that enable NMEA data input. That way, you may use software or even hardware, feeding then with PSx position, instead of their real position.

Wow, I wonder if you can fool the Garmin D2 Pilot Watch, that would be amazing! Imagine sitting in your cockpit with that watch  :D

Chris,

It is often used to interface with JeppView running on another PC.  Many of these applications moving a moving Map display and require a GPS signal.  The usual way to do this is to plug in a Serial based GPS receiver.  Adapt will just spoof the position of the PSX aircraft.  We have been using similar tools in Matts sim for years.

Adapt provides the basic GPS position and speed data to a serial port.  How you get the data to your app or device is then your problem challenge. :)

Hi John,

I just tried AdaptPSX 2.6 for the printer... and adding 14 lines after the printout solved both the "last line feed" issue, and gave the possiblity to tear off the paper without thinking further, on the EPSON TM88II cashticket printer. Amazing!
I don't know if it's really feasible, but I noticed that when I print a page from another Windows program, the printer automatically cuts the paper (it has a built-in "knife", not sure how it's triggered - maybe a "page feed"?), maybe it could be amazing if the paper was automatically cut... or maybe on real airplanes there's not real "autopaperpcut"?
Tonight I'll try AdaptPSX 2.6 for the Engravity CDU and the Aerosoft MCP, just to check... but everything was already fully fine with previous version.
So, thanks a lot for the nice hard work!
