I also have frame rate issues at the moment.

Makes sense now, It all started after Yosemite and Java 8.25

Went from 70+ to as low as 15 to about 25 average.

I've re-installed Java etc. with no luck.

What to do...

Cheers

FWIW, I decided to disable incoming email on my iPad and iPod Touch for possibly slightly related reasons.  I mostly access inbound email on my Windows PC and my iGadgets continue to work much better this way.  The specific way I disabled only inbound email was to change the incoming mail server name to a false one.

I realize that this tip may not be relevant to a normal Mac users situation where they need to have both incoming and outgoing email behave normally, but I offer this suggestion on the off chance that someone may be able to use it for a special-purpose PSX-related Mac or iPad.

I wonder if the lengthy email activity that Will reports is associated with Apple's new feature where one can start composing an email on one Apple machine and almost immediately pick up the task on another Apple machine?  It might also be due to reorganizing email search indices for use under the latest IOS or Mac releases.  Just some speculations on my part.
Best wishes,

Those were my thoughts too, that Mail was carrying out some sort of reorganization, going through tens of thousands of messages and re-indexing them, tagging them, or something like that.

Hardy,

I still have an issue with Yosemite on my MBP ever since I changed over from Mavericks. I would like to post a couple of pictures but am not sure I can do so, and if, how so. I am hoping the community is able to help.

Hardy Heinlin

Do you still have low frame rates?

cdpohl

Rarely get above 30 (used to be 60+ on Mavericks). But my main issue is flickering/lines jumping on the ND and all lettering on MCP, EICAS blurred out.

Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers

I have heard these ones before; they had to do with a just-not-compatible Java, I believe.  A Java upgrade should help, but I don't know the specifics.

cdpohl

This could well be the problem, although I had removed all previous versions I could find, and 1) installed Java 8.25 from Oracle, which brought no change. Removed this version and then 2) installed Apples Java 2014-001. Again no change. Been working on this vexing problem for some time now, but, thus far, a solution eludes me.

Hardy Heinlin

I suggest to return to Mavericks.

And I suggest -- generally -- to upgrade to new OSX versions or new Java versions only when they have been on the market for half a year or a year, i.e. wait until the typical initial bugs are cleared.

I'm sorry. This is just beyond my competence, unfortunately.

Alas, finally got rid of my problem that has been bugging me ever since I moved over to Yosemite. The issue is indeed Java!
The important fact is, to download the developer package. For those with similar problems I encountered, go to this link:

https://support.wuala.com/2014/10/problems-with-os-x-10-10-yosemite-and-java/

Then read this:
The root cause of the problem seems to lie with Java. To address it, please make sure that you have the newest version installed by going to www.java.com. In case this does not work, please install the java developer package at

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html.

This java package definitely doesn't have the bug and will be recognised by Wuala.

Thank you! Good to know.

This solution didn't work for me.

Still sitting between 20-30fps

I've been getting lower frame rates since changing my MacbookPro (which was running Mavericks). My old 13" (about two years old) died - in less than two years it had its logic board replaced under warranty and then the flash drive packed up. Apple replaced it a couple of weeks ago with the latest generation (mid-2014) with updated specs - 2.6GHz, 8Gb Ram, Intel i5 and running Yosemite.

I've noticed lower frame rates, often in the region of 35 to 45fps. I'm running the developer  version of Java 8, Update 25.

Despite the generally lower frame rates, there seem to be no other issues and everything seems to display OK and it still looks smooth. I can't explain, though, why I'm getting lower frame rates on what should be a slightly faster, better specification MBP than when I ran PSX on the previous laptop.

I had failed, though, to backup my layouts and situs, so back to square one again :(

My frame rate was down to below 30 when I had the issue with Java. Under Mavericks it was up 60+. Now that I have installed the Java Developer Package my frame rate is back up to 60+ with Yosemite, and all others problems (blurred text/jittery lines on ND) have disappeared. I'm happy right now!
