I see Yosemite is now officially available.

Has someone done the upgrade yet?

Just want to check if there are still issues re. Java 1.7 and Yosemite before I upgrade? Or have they been fixed?

Thanks
Chris

To Whom It Concerns!
You must install Java 8.25 from Oracle

Are you using PSX with Yosemite and Java 8.25 Jovabra?

I remember someone having an issue with Java 8 and PSX although that was a beta version 8.

PSX system requirements 1.6,  1.7 or higher compatible version. Is 8 now compatible?

I'm not a software guru. What is the difference between Java SE, ME, EE and the JDK?

What is the basic one that is needed for PSX.

Cheers
Chris

Chris and other readers,
After installation of Java 8.25 from Oracle everything (PSX) work's fine.

Just throwing this out there -

I tried installing PSX on the Yosemite Mac Developer Beta when PSX first came in the mail but the Java that Yosemite came with didn't work properly so I've been using my desktop PC with PSX since. I don't know if the issue has been fixed; I haven't upgraded to the RTM version yet.
Best regards,
Henry D. C.

Uhm... so to recap: Yosemite with java 8.25 works. Is that true also with a Retina MacBookPro?

It works for me too on Win 7 64 bits.

Readers,
To avoid problems with other program's (for ex. Adobe Illustrator) use the Apple Yosemite update java version.

WXR/TERR anti-alias 'INOP' on Yosemite with JDK 8.25. Checkbox has no effect. Jagged effects.

Is it just me or are the frame rates acceptable now using Yosemite on a Retina MBP screen in HiDPI mode?

Deki

Scott, not just you. I'm getting circa 60fps in a default.situ on 1920x1200 HiDPI on my Retina 15" MBP. However, I'll still end up 'hard coding' it to 2880x1800 - so much more 'real estate'.

They were already inop for Java 1.7 on the Mac. This is intentional. The "jagged" raster rendering is actually more realistic anyway.

I use a MacBook Pro, I7 Processor, 16 Gb, SSD, and changed to Apple's new OS X Yosemite. PSX will not run with Java 8.25 on my machine. It runs, however, on Apple's JavaForOSX2014-001. Under the previous OS X Mavericks my laptop achieved frame rates of 60+, now I'm down to 30+. Anyone with similar experience or knowledge how the frame rate can be improved?

I recently upgraded an iMac 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB RAM from Mavericks to Yosemite and frame-rate has reduced from maximum to 60fps. (So it's still v smooth but not max)

More disappointingly I also upgraded a MacBook Air 1.6 GHz Inter Core i5 with 4GB RAM and the frame rate is down from max to only 20fps. I use it for the PFD/ND, so the displays are no longer quite fluid.

I'm using Java 8.25.

Any suggestions on how to increase the frame rate appreciated. Would a clean install of Yosemite make any difference?

I'm amazed, Martin, you are using Java 8.25. I tried numerous times, and it just would not work.
I have a further problem I did not mention in my previous mail, in that on the EICAS control panel all lettering is blurred and illegible. Everything else is fine.

Is it a Retina issue? None of my displays are Retina.

EICAS fine, just the reduced fps issue...

I do not have a Retina display, and have the picture mirrored to an HP ZR2440w monitor. This worked fine under OS X Mavericks.

I'm not sure if this helps... but when I upgraded to Yosemite, Apple Mail started using huge amounts of CPU resources. I don't know what it was doing, but it was certainly working very hard. I also had reduced frame rates on PSX, but things were globally slow as well. Switching between applications would get a beachball for a few seconds. Now, a week later, Mail has finished doing what it was trying to do, and things are running fast again.

Hi cdpohl and Will!

After upgrading to Yosemite, 2 or 3 weeks ago, I initially had huge FPS issues on PSx. After installing Java 1.8.0_25 from Oracle (see 2nd post on this topic) all went back fine, rock-solid stuck at 71 fps in non-retina 2560 x 1600.
Maybe you have to be sure you're really using that Java version: several Java installations may co-exist on the same computer, it seems. The "about" tab of PSx instructor windows can give you a hint on what Java really runs it. It's not fully impossible that your Mac lives its own hidden life, replacing stuff in the background...

I upgraded to Java 1.8.0_25 before running PSX for the first time on Yosemite. The FPS issue I'm describing came after that. Just to say it again: after a week, Mail has quit using extraordinary amounts of resources, and my PSX frame rates are back to where they were with Mavericks.
