Problem Visual PSX/FSX NZAA

Hi Garry

This may find that you are not yet home from your well deserved holiday.

My problem arises when using PSX in association with Visual PSX and FSX, approaching NZAA.

23L from either North or South picks up NZAR which is a small regional airport about 20nm from NZAA . However, it does not affect the alignment on NZAA

05R from the west initially picked up NZHN which is a regional airport 100nm to the south but the aircrft lined up on NZWP a military airport 50nm the the north! A go around was instituted and re approaching from the south AA lined up but visual PSX had a overload!! and demonstrated a very fast scrolling of the initialisation page.

Interestingly, on aproach to NZAA to both 05R/23L a message comes up in the scratchpad saying "RW/ILS Course error" although both are correct.

I have been doing a lot of flying of late with the wonderful PSX and this is the only airport I have noted a problem.

I do have doubts on NZCH but will have to do another flight or two to prove this.

Could it be that the file required to be read in FSX for NZAA is missing and therefore it is not being read by Traffic PSX?
Cheers

Derek

Thanks Derek, will look into it. The scrolling text is definitely a bug.

Hi Derek,

I have fixed the scrolling bug and tested the approaches to the NZAA runways using PSX's repositioning feature.

It is normal for nearby airports to be selected as likely candidates for landing whenever PSX is close enough and aligned well enough with a runway. So seeing an offset applied tentatively (shown in amber) for a runway at NZAR is normal while PSX is on approach. When PSX is almost on final for NZAA 23L the offset changes to that runway and eventually is locked in (shown in green).

I was not able to reproduce the more remote airports being selected and I can't see how it could happen because VisualPSX limits its choices to about 20nm from PSX.

I was also unable to reproduce the "RW/ILS course error" message.

Try the new versions of VisualPSX and TrafficPSX that I have just released.

Cheers,
Garry

Good Morning Garry   Herewith situ file that is giving me problems. Sometimes a message in yellow comes up on the upper eicas IL21

I hope to be able to follow this with two jpgs of FSX and visual PSX when I work out how to do it!!

Cheers

Garry    Correct final shot  usually further to the left of the runway

Derek, please try VisualPSX version 5.5 instead of 5.4. Also please check the manual page 20 for an explanation of the EICAS messages.

Thank you Garry for your on going help.

Have, as you suggested  used Version 5.5!!!

Sorry, no change!

Tried coming in from different directions, with no improvement

The usual  message when lining up for NZAA 23L on Visual PSX is:-

PSX Runway 21L: offset applied for FSX 21

Offset Airport   -
Offset Runway -
Offset Slope     -

I keep wondering, in my ignorance, that the file that Runway PSX is using is missing NZAA in FSX.

Thank you for the reference to page 20 of the manual and it reminded me that the yellow eicas message refers to 21.

Regards

Derek

Hi Derek,

I now see that the message about the runway mismatch is misleading because it appears when the NZAR offset is applied but isn't removed when that offset is later discarded. You can see from the status display on the lower right that no offset is currently in force.

As you continue turning onto final for NZAA the correct offset will be applied and will appear in the status area at the bottom right even though the NZAR message is still displayed. I will change the mismatch message display to remove the ambiguity.

The correct offset for NZAA is displayed on my system but it occurs to me that you might have addon scenery for NZAA. If so there may be a bug in RunwaysPSX that fails to process that addon airport. Let me know if you do and what file it is so I can test it.

Cheers,
Garry

Good Morning Garry,
Problem solved.  Removed all add-ons for NZAA . These were only to remove 23R and 05L as an active runway, and converted to a taxiway.

QuoteAs you continue turning onto final for NZAA the correct offset will be applied and will appear in the status area at the bottom right even though the NZAR message is still displayed.

And this you will see has happened.

Once again I am indebted to you for your understanding help.

That's great Derek! But it means there is a bug in RunwaysPSX and I would like to fix it. Can you tell me what addon you used for NZAA so that I can load it to use for debugging.

Thanks,
Garry

Hi Derek,

The latest update , build 5408, fixes the problem. Run runwaysPSX 5.1 to create a new runways data file and then your addon scenery for NZAA will work.

Cheers,
Garry
