I'm totally confused and all at sea.

Has anyone managed to run PS1 on XP or Vista
with a USB joystick ?

Yes.
I'm running PS1 on XP (via 747IPC) using Saitek X52 joystick (which is a USB joystick).

USB stick -> regular XP control panel calibration, so it appears to XP (and all native XP games).

Then use PS1.3 plus 747IPC (aka WinPS1 in this case) to translate from Windows device to PS1 device. This is the infamous Joystick Mapper of which I know zip.

Then use PS1.3 native calibration on the blue SIMU pages to calibrate the devices again but now in PS1.

Thank you, gentlemen.
Now that I know it can work, I'll have yet another attempt !

Cheers,

It works in XP, in Vista I never succeeded due to this dos-cmd problem. Dual booting now...

I'll investigate using the joystick within DOSBox and Vista and give it a try asap and will report back on that when I can  :)

Latest:
Just tried to get my joystick to work with PS1.3
DOSBox detects it (DOSBox console dump):
QuoteUsing joystick Logitech Attack 3 with 3 axes, 11 buttons and 0 hat(s)

However, after the "SIMU" LSK selection and then joystick calibration, at each LSK selection e.g. Aileron, Elevator... strange things happen. The ailerons deflect full right and elevator full up when I go into the calibration and me deflecting either way doesn't seem to do anything other than change detected values against selected values for deflection. To reset it all to normal, "disable aileron/elevator" works fine, of course.
DOSBox conf file entries for the stick:
Quotejoysticktype=auto
timed=true
autofire=false
swap34=false
buttonwrap=true
That's quite strange. Any ideas anyone?

Jamie

Unfortunately I experienced the same issues. Since I have W7 now with fresh install I decided to dualboot with XP so I can use my yoke/rudder again.

Read the PS1 calibration manual. Really. You have to do things with numbers, not just move the stick.

GCIVP

How embarrassing of me! Thanks for the pointer Jeroen.
Should have read that part more carefully.
I will give the whole procedure a try and hopefully that'll sort the joystick out.

Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers

After you calibrate the stick, don't forget to have hydraulics pressurized... else the controls still don't move  :mrgreen:

Hehe  :P I've set it all so my default situation is rwy threshold, engines running, all ready for T/O. Might try a full short sector some time from "dark and cold" to shutdown "at they jetty".
The joystick works! Fantastic! Thanks for that pointer Jeroen and what an embarrassment to myself haha! Really should have read that keyboard/joystick handling section. Can't get the "throttle controller" on the base of the stick to do its job, but really, good enough as it is now. Trying to fly the sim on raw data with "fake numeric keypad" on a laptop was a bit of a laugh...

GCIVP

Uh oh, what have I done... my joystick on left/right deflection also deflects rudder surfaces...(joystick rudder control is disabled though), that's a little strange?
Just had a quick fiddle with PS1 and noticed it.
