Anyone using Prepar3d v1.4 for the visuals?

I could re-install FSX, but I really don't want to mess around with that :-/ Too many years...

Also, FSX Gold takes a bunch of disk, while Prepar3d v1.4 ( not the new version ) occupies a lot less space, and is a "cleaned" smoother version of FSX.

So... does anyone use it for visuals?

Hi José!

I've been using Prepar3D v1.4 quite a lot 1 - 2 years ago, for testing VisualPSX, during its development, and all was running fine. The issue is that there's no 747 supplied with it, so I was using iFly 747-400 v1.1 (freeware), intended for FSX, but it works fine under P3D 1.4, to get the accurate viewpoint for the "flying camera" for PSx.
Some external lights are simplified, but they are linked fine (by groups) to PSx status; same for spoilers, flaps, gear that are not as pretty as PMDG's stuff, but really enough for what we use it for!

Thx for the confirmation Pierre.

I did search and also found the iFly 744 v1.1 and will consider this one for install.

One question - how did you install the iFly 744 in P3D v1.4? Simply giving the install dir like it it was FSX?

QuoteDefault FSX 747 works well in P3D2.3. Here's my temporary setup (until psxeecon is released  )
The VC view is particulary good, as the shadow and lighting effects moving across the interior frame and windows. Momentum effect needs to be disabled in the aircraft.cfg to prevent unwanted movement.

PSX, VisualPSX, P3D with a 40inch Sharp and a side view from a rotated 20inch.

Thanks Garry. VisualPSX is a gem.

I got this from the post above. I've just installed Prepar3d version 2.3 so I haven't tested it myself but it seems that the default FSX 747 will work.

I'd much prefer to use the PMDG or Project Opensky models but there isn't any official support for those yet. (I'm one of the few who love the eye candy   )

Well, it might work, but I do not have the original FSX 744 :-/

Anyway, already DLd a few alternative 744s from tha thread, which work in P3D, and will probably re-install my copy of p3dv1.4 ;-)

Thx!

For some reason the landing lights don't work for me when using POSKY and VisualPSX (Prepar3d 2.3). I can't be bothered reinstalling FSX to use the default 747...however I may have to if I can't come up with a solution.

I have tried the ifly 747 model as well but many light switches do not work.

There is the EUR 10 Estonian Migration Tool (http://www.flightsim.ee/products/migration-tool) which will let you install FSX stuff into P3D. Installing the default FSX aircraft in this way is a single click and works great.

This was probably the best solution for a visual generator.

I tried FSX Gold, but it occupies a useless 11+GB on my HD.
X-Plane is nice in terms of night flying, but wherever I go the airports are naked, and
weather rendering although interesting is, IMO, inferior to even default FSX / P3D, not to speak of the problems with the "altitude blur".

The wrong  day/dusk/night/dawn transitions according to time of day and day of year, etc...

Ah, and in windowed mode I cannot set the window heightto half screen - it always occupies about 3 quarters of the screen :-(

And it's a useless 80+GB of HD too!

LM P3D v1.4, the previous version for which I have the Academic version, is smooth, the POSKY 744 in BA colours works beautifully and has no cockpit or sounds in it, and VisualPSX works flawlessly with the combination PSX / P3D v1.4 :-)

One last note - visibility settings transfer plausibly from PSX to P3Dv1.4!

Has anyone had issues with the database on PSX not aligning with Prepar3D? We sometimes end up on the grass by the side of the runway with a reposition on the ground.

Do you mean on landing or when lining up for takeoff?
