Hi,

Any chance I could get some kind soul out there that would be willing to send/host the files needed for XView?  I've been talking with Mike (see my post in the accessories forum) and it appears that he has gone over his quota and the files are no longer accessible until the weekend at the earliest.  Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks,

Scott

Hello,

I had a chance to get in on Dropbox and test it with the default XP10 747. AWESOME !!!!
Gents you have done a superb job. Congrat to Mister Heinlin.

I can upload on my dropbox if needed the acft and the plugin if necessary.

If you wish, I'll see about hosting your files on my site (http://kingmont.com) where I "mirror" the FlightGear project code.

It has anonymous FTP access for downloading their files.

If you wish to proceed, drop me a note at "jj@kingmont.com"

I've placed an area in my ftp site now (actually there was a previous area there for ps-1 which was never used. I just renamed it).

Guess I should give the link which is:

ftp://ftp.kingmont.com/flightsims/psx/

(Currently nothing there but an information file).

Has someone the aircraft model for Xplane 10 that is fully compatible with the xview plugin ? If so please share.

I have found the plugin wich works very fine with the default 744 model but is not fully compatible regarding animations.

Thanks

Hi Filoux,

Try getting the file here. I believe it's called PSX Plane and it's about 80mb to download. You should be able to find all the files including the user manuals there also.

ftp://larkshayes.com

Thanks for the link. It seems files are removed because I can only find a .ftpquota file there.

I downloaded the file about three days ago, not sure why it's gone now. I've uploaded it to my dropbox so feel free to download it. If you need any of the other files, let me know.

Jermaine,

Any chance you could dropbox the XView files as well since they aren't on Mike's link anymore?

Any updates on the FTP quota issue for the XView plugin?  Still no luck getting access to the file(s) and I would really like to get some external scenery injected from X-Plane  :'(

For some reason the files on the ftp directory were deleted.  This was nothing that I have done.  Anyhow the main files are already back up again and as I write PSX plane is about 20% uploaded.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

My antivirus software (Norton Internet Security) was just provoked into a virus/malware alert during downloading the latest XView files from their FTP site.  Thus, it quarantined the indicated file (XView32.xpl) and made it inaccessible to my PC.

NOTE:  All anti-malware software has a non-zero false positive rate, so I do *not* personally claim that there is (or is not) anything wrong with these files.  Nevertheless, I thought it best to pass along this info.

I also noticed that the time stamp on the files may not be accurate - it shows approximately 10:25pm on September 6, 2014.  Perhaps this is just a time zone difference - I live in the USA, Eastern time zone (same as NY city).

Below is Norton's warning panel:

Here's the plain text information from this anti-virus alert:

My initial feelings are that the scanner does not have any clue what this is, and panics. What do other virusscanners say?

How can I (or others) feed an allegedly suspicious file to for example web-based virus scanners?  I can't download it to my PC and then feed it to web-based virus scanners without my Norton scanner freaking out and quarantining the file.

Also, the ftp site where the file lives has username and password protection...
Best wishes,

Hi Phil,

I am sorry that your virus scanner does not like my software.   :'(  Norton is no doubt freaking because it sees that XView.xpl is an executable file and very few people in the world are using it - therefore potentially suspicious.

The machines here are all protected with Kaspersky and the compilation is done with the professional version of Visual Studio 2013.  The reason the date says the 6th September is that I uploaded the files last night as the originals had vanished from the server.  These "new" files are identical to those released previously - they are just a copy of my  backup of the production release.

It's up to you, but either turn Norton off for a short while while downloading the files, or reduce the protection level.  Alternatively I can email you a copy directly if you give me the details.

Mike,

Thanks for your advice and the details.

I also tried to figure out why Norton would freak out at this .xpl file.  One thing that confused me occurred when Norton passed the 64-bit .xpl file but freaked out on the 32-bit xpl file.  While nothing that anti-virus software does surprises me, I would think that the heuristics it used to somehow decide that the file was malware would have also been triggered by the 64-bit version of the file.  Obviously, I don't know either how Norton's heuristics work or if the 32-bit and 64-bit .xpl files are very similar, so my ability to form any meaningful conclusions is very limited.

In the meantime I've run multiple virus and malware scanners on my PC and nothing shows up.  Unfortunately, the malware creators seem to be well ahead of the anti-malware scanner developers...

Would you recommend that I simply delete this thread as unnecessary and unhelpful?
Best wishes,

Phil Bunch
