Just managed to put my first route into the FMS! Must have been well over five years since Ive done so.

I was also very pleased that this site http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/ is still up and running. Enter departure and arrival airport and it will give you the complete route, waypoints and airways etc. I entered the whole route (EHAM KORD) using the airways and it went without a hitch. So the database for this application and PSX must be very similar.

I had several fuel planning I used with my PS1. Cant find any of them. What are the most current fuel planning tools you gents are using?

Without a doubt: PFPX. It's not freeware, but worth every penny

I'm a mac only person too, but have bought PFPX to run via Virtualbox. You also have the possibility to boot a mac in windows using bootcamp - yesterday I managed to get PSX to network between 2 macs, one running OSX and the other Windows, so bootcamp would increase rather than limit your options.

thanks, I just tried it, looks quite nice. My main thing now is to get a route put together easily and get some idea about fuel

Simbrief is very good.  Will accurately calculate SID/STAR-DEP/ARR runways dependent on weather.  I used it for quite a while with the PMDG 737 and Majestic Q400.  Times, fuel use and winds were spot on.

Let me put in another plug for PFPX. I also use it on a Mac with VirtualBox, and it's great.

Same here. One interesting thing:

Using the PFPX supplied 744 stats, I found I was getting lower fuel burn in PSX than planned in PFPX (all other things being equal) so I opened up the aircraft file (744 PMDG) and saw that the climb/cruise/descent figures were adjusted to 106%. Changing them to 100% gave spot on figures for PSX.

Does this mean that the PFPX authors adjusted the real-world 744 figures up 6% to work in PMDG and that PSX is, by contrast, exactly as the real thing?!

Will

martin, do you get the same V speeds from PFPX and from the PSX FMC?

Er, no - from memory I think they were 2/3 kts different. Will explore further. is this what you've found?

Yes, although I haven't dived in deep to see what the issue is.

User error is a distinct possibility. :-)
