Default FSX 747 works well in P3D2.3.  Here's my temporary setup (until psxeecon is released  )
The VC view is particulary good, as the shadow and lighting effects moving across the interior frame and windows.  Momentum effect needs to be disabled in the aircraft.cfg to prevent unwanted movement.

PSX, VisualPSX, P3D with a 40inch Sharp  and a side view from a rotated 20inch.

Thanks Garry.  VisualPSX is a gem.

Quote from: JRBarrettIn addition to having a much more accurate and visually pleasing look, apparently almost all of the cockpit switches are functional, including a working battery and avionics master switch, which should insure that the aircraft's radios will work properly when linked to a VATSIM client under the control of TrafficPSX.
Hi Jim,

I don't understand why there should be a problem with the standard/default/original FSX 747. TrafficPSX was developed and tested online with VATSIM using that aircraft. Nothing should need to be turned on as everything is controlled by PSX or forced on by TrafficPSX.

I haven't tested this recently myself but I think others have it working properly with both FSX and P3D.

A puzzle.

Cheers,

The only issue I have with the default 747 is that on my system, TrafficPSX, will not force on the FSX battery master and avionics master switches - even though I know you designed TPX to do that. As you know, unless those switches are on in the FSX 747, radio tuning commands sent to a VATSIM client from PSX won't work properly.

The issue with the default 747 VC is that the battery on/off switch in the overhead panel is a dummy - it is not clickable. My only option was to map FSX master battery on/off to a joystick button.

The drop-in VC upgrade I mentioned is simply an enhanced version of the original FSX 747 VC. In the new version, the FSX battery can be switched on by pressing the battery switch in the overhead in case the aircraft loads unpowered, and the TrafficPSX "force on" command doesn't work, as happens in my system.

The only other difference between the add-on VC and the original is that the graphics in the virtual cockpit have been re-worked to give a more pleasing visual appearance than the original. The modified cockpit graphics are sharper and cleaner. I don't spend all that much time in the VC, though I do occasionally like to pan to look out of the pilot or first officer side windows in cruise when flying over scenic regions.

Gentlemen!!!!!

Thank you all for your comments.  It does seem clear that for now, the FSX msft Model is fine.  I d/l'd a bunch of posky aircraft with links provided by Ray (thanks, and see above for the links) and will give those a try.

Since I don't have the PMDG 744' i think I'll pass on that for now.

What I want is nothing fancy, just an external view for taxiing and something to look at while flying, a UPS aircraft for a UPS flight plan for instance, flap movement and anything else is a bonus.

Well it is Friday!!!! Yay!!! Thank you all for your comments and help, and please, as you have experience with other models, please post here.

Cheers!!

There is a small issue with some of the models and their contact points resulting in them looking like they are being dragged over the ground (clouds of smoke etc).

I have been messing around with the aircraft.cfg to adjust them.

It looks like is it a combination of the actual contact height coupled with the compressibility for each of the 18 tires.

Hi Ray,

I see what you are saying, don't have time to experiment now, but maybe later tonight.

here's a link with some pertinent info:  http://forum.flyawaysimulation.com/forum/topic/5779/contact-points-explained-and-some-fixes/

Looks like the right info, back in the day, I used to be good at this stuff, we'll see later.

cheers

Hi Jim,

Just a heads up. I tested the avionics master control by TrafficPSX and it worked as advertised. I had the virtual cockpit in view and then made the 2D radio stack visible to observe that it was unpowered. Then I hid it and started TrafficPSX. When I displayed the radio stack again everything was on.

So, still no idea why it doesn't work on your system without your workaround.

Garry

Usually don't really care about an external model, but the inability to turn on the landing lights is bugging me -- using the POSKY 747-400 models here on P3D 2.3.

Anyone else have any issues using the POSKY model?

I have also tried the ifly 747 free model and the lights also do not turn on.

Thanks,

Ben

Addit -- believe it or not, the landing lights work if I choose the POSKY Airbus as a model. Guess I may have to fly an Airbus with Boeing avionics in the mean time

dts

Just need to copy the posky lights into effects with P3d or FSX, then the lights will work

Hi dts, I have copied the opensky*_.fx effects into the effects folder but landing lights still do not work.

These are the only effect files I see -- no landing lights --
