Quote from: Hardy HeinlinSomeone counteracted my flight controls :-)

Was that intentional or a bad USB neutral zone?
Hope I didn't sabotage anything, just logged on and no controls connected at this point.

The Miami connection runs fine!

I don't have proper flight controls, so I just push a button once in a while.

Hessel Oosten

It did run here fully OK, especially NO air-sickness when Martin was flying.... :D
Sorry, couldn't take the yoke, VERY slow PC here with 5 fr.
New PC within ~2 weeks.

It was terrific, with X-Plane as visuals. I used a client configuration and boost server towrds X-Plane; is it the right way to do that? It worked fine anyway.

Tomorrow night we can do it again and this time I could be PF

Good night and thanks

I thought it had to be main and boost for XP. Will try same myself next time. Thanks.

We should try SimSwitch  next time with chat.

Or scratchpad messages should start with a 2-letter code of the pilot speaking (typing).

Everything was on the same desktop: I turned network on as a client toward HH's server, then fired X-Plane and turned on the boost server. It worked.

From Miami on an as-bad-as-it-gets DSL line, the delay between CDU keypress and display response was less than 500 ms. Only when typing fast, the system missed keystrokes. W h e n  y o u t y p e s l o w l y there is no problem at all.

Figuring out what the current crew tries to accomplish always is fun!

A PSX client can be a Boost Server :)

I realise that. The problem was that XView needs the main as well as boost server and for some reason, unless boost and main are on the same machine, I can't get Xview to see the main. I'm working at it tho and sure I'll find what I'm doing wrong soon.

Last night I logged on to the shared session and expected to lurk but got drawn in! So if I want I can share a flight with a co-pilot over the internet? Amazing. How, though, if I initiate the session, do I workout the IP address to give out, as Hardy did last night?

John Golin

A good site to find your public IP is

http://www.whatismyip.com/

You will need to set up port forwarding on your router on port 10747 to your local PSX instance to ensure people can connect...

Fab thanks. Am travelling for a couple of days but will experiment when I get back. M

I just look up my IP address on Instructor > Preferences > Basics:

In the middle of the page, left side, in italics:

This host address (main and boost) 255.255.255.255

Hardy,

I have my PSX machine behind the router and I get 192.168.xxx.xxx on the Instructor Page which is a not valid address if someone wants to connect from the internet.

(Does your computer have a static address?)

I need to use whatismyip (theoretically; my router does have a static IP) and use port forwarding.

Markus

Hardy Heinlin

I have no static address.

If your indication is not valid, try hitting ESC twice to update the instructor page. This helps sometimes.

Hardy: this depends on whether your router uses Network Address Translation or not. Most often, your externally visible IP address is only used by one Ethernet interface, which is on your router. All others that go to your internal network have a local address, typically from either 192.168.x.x or from 10.x.x.x. PSX won't be able to find out the externally visible IP address.

Anyone on now or later tonight?
