Thankyou - I had a quick poke around but didn't find that page!

As learning continues, refinement does as well.... here is the layout that I have settled on for the moment, displayed on a 1080p TV.  At 65" the PFD and ND in flying view are actually slightly oversized (about 12" x 12" to compensate for some of the other lacking sensory cues when desktop aviating).

Also a short turn state for convenience, replicating what one is likely to find walking on to a 746 flight deck at LHR.

It is my hope that as others share their experiences, we will all collectively benefit.

cavaricooper,

Thanks for posting these layout and situ files.  They will be very helpful as I continue to go up the many learning curves of PSX.

What a privilege and an experience it is to make this journey!
Best wishes,

Hardy, Will et al-

After a few weeks with PSX I have settled on this view FOR A SINGLE LAPTOP application-

I took input from your thread (ta!) as well as Hardy's recommendation on how to position the PFD and External View to arrive at the above.  Would you have a moment to load and critique... there is so much to learn and I would like others' thoughts.  Throttles and Yoke are directly controllable via the EICAS and PFD/ND + mouse.

This layout is for a SINGLE laptop (15" rMBP) configuration.  When I fly on my sim machine at home, it is networked and there is no gear handle in the upper left window- that resides on the support computer's display.

Anyway, the layout can be found at https://app.box.com/s/0rd8zr87yqqb6r1kvfkw if anyone fancies a few moments to experiment with...

Ta in advance- C

Hi there C,

One of nice things about PSX is that anyone can configure it to suit his or her needs. So the most important critique is the one you give to yourself!

But here are some thoughts.

I don't like to have instruments cut in half, and I don't like empty and unused space. This doesn't seem to bother you, which is of course fine. It's more of a personal aesthetic, rather than anything else. For example, on "Captain Flying," you have the standby instruments cut in half (both on the upper and lower panes), and you have unused space surrounding the FMC.

You could solve both of those "problems" by dragging the vertical separator to the right by about 2 cm. That would let you see the standby instruments in their entirety on the lower pane, while isolating the upper EICAS and the FMC without unused space around them.

But again, it's what works best for you.

On "EICAS," why is the MCP so large? You might want to reduce it, so that there's more view out the windshield.

Oh, and that brings me to another favorite aesthetic: just like I don't like instruments to be cut in half, I don't like frames to be missing. When you can see a few pixels of the frame, you know there's no information that's missing because it's outside your field of view. So on your panel "EICAS," I'd shrink the upper pane (to enlarge the view out the cockpit) until you get a few pixels of the rim of the cockpit window above. You can see what I'm talking about by loading my 9pack (WJC 04 Custom.9pack) and looking at my panel "Cruise." You can see the barest sliver of window frame up top, which reassures you that you aren't missing any of the visual information from your forward view.

Anyway, those are some ideas for your consideration.

Will-

Many thanks- exactly the alternate perspectives I'm looking for.  I will keep tweaking in search of the perfect layout (albeit for me).  There is a lot of benefit behind Hardy's insistence on PFD/external placement.  On 15" of display... The trade-offs are numerous...

Thanks again mate!
