PSX and Apple Retina displays

Just a note for those interested in Retina displays:

Apple Retina displays are currently not 100% compatible with Java and PSX.

There might be a fix later, but this is not guaranteed.

Thanks for the information.

Does this caution only apply to PC-based monitors or does it apply to the iPad, iPod, iPhone, too?  This is probably a silly question since it's not clear to me that I should try to run PSX on an iPad!
Best wishes,

No problem!, you can still switch to full resolution (not-scaled)

You need a third-party tool, as you cannot use full resolution without scaling through the Display preferences. I've used QuickRes (in the App Store) with good results, the only problem is that normal windows look really small.

PSX will look amazing on retina!

Just to clarify - PSX requires a full Java runtime environment - as this does not exist for cutdown devices such as iPad, Android, Windows 8 RT etc PSX cannot run natively on them.

Basically you need a PC of some sort.

Also, from what I've read, the Retina display machines have a compatibility issue with Java (not PSX per se).

Greetings. Very much appreciate the caution about this. I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro with retina display so I may be left in the cold for some time. Will the eventual fix come from Aerowinx or Apple?

Or Oracle? Who produces the Apple Java JRE nowadays?

I'm guessing probably Oracle as they now maintain Java for OSX and I gather the problem is quite fundamental in Java...

looks like there is a lot of work in progress to resolve Retina issues...  e.g.
