I think it was hit by an engine, right?  Or else it was overcome by the hilarity of the movie.  I thought it was particularly funny that the captain neglected the tiller and continued to steer with the yoke while taxying...

I would guess that it was some loose gunpowder, perhaps accompanied by some of the chemicals used to create colored fireworks displays.  Standard equipment for ILS sheds. (grins)
