Title: Virtual Airlines for PSX
Post by: CHA on Sat, 24 Oct 2020 18:17

Hi,

I am interested in participating in a virtual airline.  I only have PSX on my computer and not interested in adding on Microsoft etc. platform to piggy back on. Anyone have any ideas?

1. Is there a way to connect up to VATSIM / IVAO with PSX alone?
2. Is there a virtual airline that works with PSX.
3. Is there a way to create a PIREP from PSX that I can provide to a VA that a flight occurred.

Thank You - CHA

Hi Cha,

Stevens VA (http://www.stevens-va.de) started as a VA for Aerowinx. They are still active

Hello Cha,

1. Is there a way to connect up to VATSIM / IVAO with PSX alone?
As far as I am aware, there is no unique VATSIM / IVAO client for PSX. Years ago, there was, but currently there is nothing. I wish there was. Unfortunately, VATSIM / IVAO is missing out.

2. Is there a virtual airline that works with PSX.
As Ton already stated, Stevens VA is still active. Back in the day, there were three VAs for Aerowinx PS1.3 (one was UK based, Stevens, and Cargolux if I recall correctly). Stevens is not as busy as in the past, but nonetheless still going strong. If everything goes well, there will be updated website in the summer 2021. Along with some more updates.

3. Is there a way to create a PIREP from PSX that I can provide to a VA that a flight occurred.

There is STV ACARS sytsem that does provides data feed to the VA. Your flight must be flown on a one go. Which is not an issue for most flights. However it records all pertinent data and is is easy to use.

Out of interest, I tried applying for Stevens VA earlier this year and was told they weren't accepting new applications as they were doing some upgrades.

I then sent an email a few weeks ago to see how things were going and if new applications were being accepted again and I have yet to receive a response. I'm hoping everything is OK with the management at Stevens and that they are all healthy and safe.

So if you have any luck with your application CHA, I would be interested to find out.

Cheers

Hi all,

I'm working the technical side of Stevens VA and all pilot applications for Stevens VA have been forwarded to me by now and I'm working now to get everything set up (took a few days because I was out of town and away from all my tools).

Just a few more hours of patience and you'll be ready.

As already mentioned by Andrej, we have a xACARS-compatible client in use at Stevens VA which is an allmost-one-click PIREP tool. I hooks up to PSX, just a three or four more text fields of information and then runs automatically all the way until shutdown where it automatically submits a PIREP and stores the flown, actual route for later display (or analysis). The only trick is that you cannot interrupt your flight (pause is possible but not encouraged for longer times), you need to record the flight in one session (due to the live connection).

Best regards,
  Markus

Is Stevens still on duty?
I was a member of Stevens years ago and bought PSX two weeks ago.
I just wrote a mail to pilot-application@stevens-va.de to see there is any live there. ;-)

Hi @Markus Vitzethum,

please do me a favour and mail me (on german of course  ;)) about STV. Unfortunately there are no PM's possible here.

Thank you!
