Title: Simfest Dispatch and BACARS V7.0.8
Post by: Gary Oliver on Mon, 3 Feb 2020 19:44
All,

Following the release of the NG FMC pack I am pleased to support some features of the NG FMC and more pack which finally removes some of the bodges around wind uplinks from BACARS.

I just want to thank Hardy for his consistently brilliant network interface for developers.  I started making changes a few months ago to pass cirrus wind data from dispatch to BACARS in the hope that hardy will provide a network interface for the data in the instructor station.

To my surprise with a little monitoring of the PSX port Hardy has already provided these features at release it would appear making the release of this update a few hours work on top of the pre work.

New Features in V7

-Wind Corridors automatically created when uplinking FLT INIT information from the dispatch centre and enabled.

-Weather SENT> bug fixed

-Sensibo integration to integrate real world airconditioning systems temperature on EICAS and control your aircon in your simulator from the overhead temp panels (message if you want to try this out)

-Loadsheet figures integrated

-PSX EFB for the iPad Support (More info to come on this)

-BAVirtual Integration for BACARS OOOI data

-VATSIM ATIS migrated to new reliable JSON data server.

Grab the new version from Here (https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ak0tcu2d8ubf0o684ssi1/PSX-BACARS-7.0.8.msi?rlkey=jmaqi2jsipnbnjwkto7fd3lnk&dl=1)

Hi Gary,

I don't have the NG FMC yet (am waiting for Aerosoft Usa to offer the update). Are you saying the new Bacars update will take the 'wind information' generated by PSX Dispatch/Simbrief and copy it to the Corridor box automatically.

Thanks in advance, John

Hi Gary, many thanks for getting this update out so quickly after the NG release and for all the add-on support you give for PSX.

I've just installed BACARS 5.05 from the link. It prints a PERF REQ as expected, but it doesn't print any WX/AIS outputs - the PSX printer light never comes on. I've tried it with MET and ATIS selected for several airports (both arrival and departure) but no luck. Please can you help?

Many thanks,

M

Martin,

I tested that quite extensively yesterday as some changes were made around that.  Have you got a hoppie login code entered? I wonder if it's broken without one.

I have the same problem as Martin - I think it is a Hoppie logon issue - no matter what I try I can't get his number/letter sequence to work. Not even with cut/paste..

The ACARS backend has a spy function so that you can see whether your requests actually got through:

https://www.hoppie.nl/acars/system/log.html

If you don't see anything at all here under your callsign, you know there is a data item missing somewhere in your setup.

You can also verify whether the backend itself works ok; if you see others' messages, it is working.

To simply verify your logon code, you can use this one:
https://www.hoppie.nl/acars/system/send.html

And if you doubt about your code, re-register and the system will re-send if you still have a valid code. Take care that copy-paste is always the safer option than read-and-type. Characters such as 1 and l, and i and l, and 0 and O are very easy to mess up.
https://www.hoppie.nl/acars/system/register.html

There are ACARS clients that auto-register for you. FSLabs has a few. If these manage to get their own code, they will likely disable your old code without you noticing.

Hi Gary,

I have a question regarding performance calculation in BACARS (using your web planner(http://ba747card.us-west-2.elasticbeanstalk.com/) for testing purposes. I hesitated between asking here or creating another thread, tell me if you prefer this option).

My question is about Packs Off Take Off.
Out of curiosity I ran several tests to understand the effects on performance.
I lock all conditions:, weather, runway, I stick with antiice off and dry runway, etc and compare the results with the option packs on or off to see the difference.
I willingly use rather short runways to make sure the runway is limiting.

The only difference i see is that assumed temp is a bit higher and V1 a bit higher with packs ON. But there is no difference in TOPL: I assumed that PACKS OFF take off would allow for a greater TOPL (or allow to reduce wear on the engine for a given weight).

Am I missing something regarding this TOPL not moving ?

Cheers.

Charles

Peter, when I installed BACARS 5.0.5 I had to re-enter my Hoppie logon details and the boxes remained red as though the details weren't accepted. But when I restarted BACARS all looked normal and green. Did your login details work after a restart?

V best, Martin

Hi Gary and thanks for your reply. I entered my Hoppie login code and after a BACARS restart had green boxes so presume that was all ok. I'm going to have another go in a minute - sometimes these things take a bit of time to settle down - I'll report back. V best, Martin

Charles - No, I don't think you are missing anything - Packs OFF should give an increase of about 2000kg.

Some previous confusion over the letters and numbers, as Hoppie says, no doubt.

Okay so we are happy the Hoppie Code fixes the Weather bug.  Would anyone be offended if we made a Hoppie Code mandatory?  Otherwise theres a bit of recoding required that we could use the time for more exciting things on :-)

Regarding the Performance Figures we know there are a few things to look at. We just need to get Btriple7 enthusiastic again!

Gary   Thank you for your efforts. I am aware that you are working on getting ACARS and weather printout but whist you are doing that would you please look into the fact that the print outs I am getting from dispatch and PSX are being shortened by about a 1/4 and  following printouts include what is missing in the previous ones.I have happily been using a Epsom receipt printer in association with Adapt PSX.

In the process of converting to W10 from W7  the password for  simfest dispatch disappeared into the ether!

I would be grateful if you could email a new password. I assume you have my email address on file.

Hi Guys,  I too had problems accessing simbrief from simfest.

It  seems that the problem lies in the schedule section of simfest.

If you have any flight  that is not filled in completely or wrongly, delete them, and all will be well again.

I obtained this advice from Gary

One thing I noticed, as with previous versions, uplinked ACARS Messages will always be send to 'BAW', regardless of the airline codes - long and short - configured in BACARS. I might be doing something wrong?

Hi Gary,

Been running PSX BACARS-V5.0.8 all is fine but when I edit PSX.Bacars.UI.exe.Config to use LB & then attempt to enter the fuel figure during flight init the numbers will not enter ... on Page 2/2 ACARS INIT/PRES FLT the actual fuel figure is correctly shown in LB but on page 1/2 I am unable to enter it as a LB QTY, I can however enter it as a KG QTY.

Hi Gary,

Really stupid question.  I haven't used Simfest Dispatch for awhile and was trying to get back into it to explore new stuff.  Dispatch seemed to work ok for getting flight schedules etc. but I hung up when trying to get flight plan etc. - my  Simbrief sign-on got messed up and couldn't get new password for some reason.  What's the easy way to get signed up again??

Hi Torrence,

In the manual Gary mentions the following,,

quote
b. Your email address you register here should be the same one you use on BACARS or
CLOUDCARS explained later in this document.

c. Your email address will not be added to any email lists.

d. If you really want you can use a fictional email address such as
gary.oliver@leavemealone.com if you would rather
end quote

So it looks like you can use an email of your creation as long as the same email in used in the Bacars email entry.

Thanks for info, John

I think my problem may stem from using my old installation with BACARS v4.0.5 and associated settings - I was using the same email in both Dispatch and BACARS but was still getting message that Simbrief already had that email used for some reason.  I'll try loading and setting up latest V5.0.8 and starting over.

Have got BACARS v5.0.8 going successfully now - and Dispatch is producing OPF and other stuff successfully.  Thanks for RTFM reminder, John  :).  Still have one puzzle - after I start initializing ACARS (FLT INIT), enter flight number etc. everything looks ok:  DATA UPLINKED etc. through READY TO BOARD per BACARS dispatch guide.  However, I noticed on the BACARS status window that everything was Green except the ACARS button which was RED with ACARS FAILED message in spite of everything in the cockpit looking fine - proper route loaded, fueling going on etc. ?? Any idea of what's triggering that?

Hi Gary,

Just tested out the BACARS and Simfest dispatch system and it's a fantastic piece of software! Can't believe how close we are to the real thing. Just one small request  ;D Any chance we can have the ACA (Air Canada) OFP format included in airline options?

Problem I have with AdaptPSX is that the format end is wrong...
The date/time stamp does not get printed (so it ends up at the top of the next item printed) and the page does not get a form feed or CRLF....
It would be nice to have a printout that has some custom settings. WidePSX uses too large a font and the margins are too big so I only get half lines in the centre of the form... but it does form feed and send a cut signal...

So the print format of AdaptPSX and the control aspects of WidePSX.... now that would work (I think...:) )

Morning all:

Not getting any WX printout in PSX even with 5.1.0. I created a Hoppie login this morning and everything is green bar the four bottom buttons which are blue.

I'm not sure what further information to provide, I appreciate the above is little more than "its broken". I've read through this thread but it seems the problem was fixed back in 1.0.7/0.8.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: Other printouts work fine, including creating a test message in BACARS and sending it through.

Second Edit: It appears to be related to which type of WX I request. PSX ATIS by itself comes through and it gets printed. No VATSIM ATIS though.
SIGMET is blank, MET and METS seem to return nothing. All are "FROM: WXRAIS"
Combinations tend to result in nothing being printed.

Thanks

Anthony

I shall try and have a look this week and the various issues that seem to have sprung up since it all worked perfectly for 40 legs during world flight (after the first few leg issues)

Hi Gary
Ok, I could nail down the Problem, even if I could not explain: On the Planning site, i had several old flights, that have been planned. They didn't have the calculator button and had the Route, Pax, Cargo and CG Fields filled out. They have been blue in colour. As soon as i ticked every checkmark icon on every flight that had no calculator symbol, so that only the "green" just calculated flight was left, i could enter the briefeings page again. Like it tried to open old briefings together with the new one, but the old ones have not been around anymore and therefore popped an error.
Now it's all good again, i see my briefing.
Thank you very much for hinting the right direction.
Kind Regards
Beat

(I didnt forget to write your manual for BACARS, I just had very little time lately and wanted to switch to MSFS first...).

You can erase latched EICAS messages on Instructor > Situation > Service by clicking "Erase latched messages".

It's a simulation of the latching logic in the real 744, but also clears fictitious messages injected by add-ons.

Dear Gary, the next question:
My OFP for MUHA-EDDK says 174000 kgs of fuel, but after INIT DATA REQ there will be just 142170 in the Fuel window in PSx, that was my last fuel amount from the last flight..

Staff, usually you see the fuel in the preload window. When you check the ready for boarding flag to yes, bacars will start loading your plans and also refuel.
You then get the paper print after fuelling has finished.

Hi Gary,
adding on to Steff's question, I too, would be grateful for addition of STV. In regards to our code, this is directly from our website.

"Stevens 2-letter IATA code is SE and the the 3-letter ICAO-code is STV. It has been decided to use
the ICAO 3-letter code for all flight operations.

Thank you!

Hi Gary, I'm getting an error when adding a new flight plan. In the browser console window:

blazor.server.js:19 [2021-05-22T10:39:25.389Z] Error: There was an unhandled exception on the current circuit, so this circuit will be terminated. For more details turn on detailed exceptions by setting 'DetailedErrors: true' in 'appSettings.Development.json' or set 'CircuitOptions.DetailedErrors'.

The plan I tried to add is BAW 848 from OTHH - WMKK at 1410.

Try again that should work... was an issue with OTHH in the database.

Gary,

Thanks for the update ... V6.0.5 is working flawlessly here.

Is there any chance that you can add a tweak so that BACARS can take a fuel entry in LBS in excess of the total allowable amount it can parse in KGS? There are heathens amongst us who like to fly mixed fleets some of which still like to use lbs as the weight index?

The maximum number would never exceed 383000 unless somebody tried to fly an ER PAX in lbs.

Enjoy your WorldFlighting

@all BA Pilots: It would be interesting, if there are any other equpment related Performance Correction Codes available.

Everything has "green" boxes except "winds" (Red)
Any ideas of what I have missed here.
At the moment we are still manually copy and pasting the upper winds into psx.

Hi Gary,

agree, works perfectly again.

While playing around (about to implement Hoppie ACARS network functions in my own ACARS), I notice a small issue with FREETEXT message across the Hoppie ACARS network.

When I leave the TO field empty (just boxes) and send the message (--> Summary --> Accept), BACARS is happily using the blank entry as the TO field for the Hoppie ACARS message. Even worse, it uses the PSX internal string of BBBBB (that is, "show 5 boxes on the CDU") as a valid TO address on the network.

I reckon there should be some check that prohibits sending messages with blank TO entries in BACARS and inhibit BBBBB as a TO entry for a Hoppie ACARS message.

Agreed. Frequently, my CDU ACARS subsystem code looks like this...  :-)

  Alternate := MCDUdataExchange.ICAO_Alternate;
  If (Alternate <> EditAlternate.Text) then
  begin
    If Alternate = 'bbbb' then Alternate := '';
    EditAlternate.Text := Alternate;
  end;

Marvelous, thank you. I owe you a bag of M&M's chocoloate when we meet next time.  :D

Just another thought ... if I'm not wrong, the .msi installer overrides the config on every run of the update installation. So I usually save that file while updating. Can you possibly add an option to not install the config file? (The installer of vpilot is doing this.)

Thanks,
  Markus

Can you provide me with the List of the missing Codes of Performance Correction (Implemented in 6.0.7)? Gary,

I'm struggling with BACARS behaving in an unexpected manner.  So I have BACARS and PSX.NET all running on the same computer with PSX Server and Boost.  Consequently, the IP is 127.0.0.1 and the port is 10747.  I get PSX Connected, ACARS: Connected, PerfDB, and AltnDB as all green!  Great.

From there I go to ACARS in the CDU and select the INIT/PRES FLT option in the CDU. I put in my flight number from Simfest/Simbrief, in this case, BA2201 from YSSY-YBBN.  I then hit INIT DATA REQ.  At that point, the Crew Uplink, Route, Wind, and Plan turn yellow.  Then I get an error in the FMC saying NO DATA AVAIL.  The Crew Uplink, Route, Wind, and Plan turn red.  And strangely, I sometimes get a flightdeck printer notice with some other flight that isn't mine with a flight summary. Regardless, no flight plan information is loaded or downloaded.

I have double-checked my Hoppie information, including rerunning the registration process and Hoppie continues to email me my standard login.  I can successfully send a test message using the "ACARS: Connected" button.

I'm stumped.  I'm using the NG CDU and G-CIVZ.

Thanks for any assistance.

Dan

And one more thing, Simfest is stuck in a loop when planning where it brings up the Simbrief pop-up which prompts you to login, except that the Cookies Preferences dialog keeps interfering and preventing it from letting me login.  Thus, I used the Chrome inspector to open the Simbrief link directly.  The flight then finished planning and it shows up in Simfest in the Briefings tab.

To get METAR when using BACARS:
- Use centre CDU
- MENU > ACARS > WX/AIS
- Enter the ICAO identifier (e.g EGLL) in the scratchpad
- Press the button next to IDENT
- Press MET (so <SEL> is shown)
- Press SEND

The METAR should after a few seconds be printed on the PSX printer (which needs to be enabled, Preferences > Screen > Papers from printer as desktop frames)

You can also find the METAR in the centre CDU: MENU > ACARS > MESSAGES > STORED UPLINKS
