Ladies and gentlemen,
"NG FMC and More" -- the package is now available.
After more than five years of uploading hundreds of free PSX updates, this package is now something I can't distribute free of charge, unfortunately. I'm just mentioning this for those who perhaps joined this forum only recently. The long-time members will probably understand anyway. I would love to invite you all to another free round, especially because so many of you have contributed to this community with add-ons, tutorials, observations on the real deck, and so on. Regrettably, the time has now come that I need to recharge my batteries. Being a one-man company, PSX development and support has always been a full-time job for me. Before PSX was released in 2014, there was a six-year development phase with 17 hours of work daily -- without any income. So after the release of PSX I had to finance not only the support work thereafter but also the preceding six-year phase. Well, I have a passion for all these technical challenges and want to continue uploading free updates. Hopefully, there'll be sufficient demand for the "NG FMC and more"; it would enable me to keep working at maximum power.
What's included in the package?"NG FMC and More" is an upgrade package for Aerowinx Precision Simulator 10 (PSX); it enables the option to simulate the new B744 NG FMC (Next Generation Flight Management Computer). Additionally, it provides the following bonus features:
• The simulation of multicolor LCD CDUs
• The Wind & OAT corridor tools (advanced weather simulation)
• The SIGMET tools (advanced weather simulation)
The main part -- the NG FMC:Most B744 aircraft in the real world are now equipped with NG FMCs. The upgrade was necessary because modern ATC procedures require a higher navigation performance. The NG FMC also provides more data uplink features for the preflight and inflight phases. Many useful functions regarding flight safety and pilot assistance have been added as well. Among other things, the NG FMC provides:
• More memory (for up to 250 route legs, etc.)
• VNAV off-idle thrust descent for better speed control
• RF legs (constant radius to a fix)
• Additional waypoint data on the ND
• Change-over guidance on the ND for offset route transitions
• Holding pattern entry guidance on the ND
• FMC computed flap profile points on the ND
• Automatic FMC command speed changes at flap profile points
• RVSM step size logic
• FMC computed recommended CRZ ALT
• Cruise speed segments (CSS) option with ECON, LRC, Mach, RTA
• Speed-only constraints are allowed in climb and descent
• Vectors can be manually entered; automatic intersection calculation etc.
• Second top of descent for deceleration phase at cruise altitude
• Top of descent after level-off segments in descent
• Airline policy pages with editable TO 1 / TO 2 thrust derate values etc.
• New pages for the enroute management of alternate airports and diversions
• POS REF pages and NAV OPTION page with more control functions
• New PERF INIT page with data uplink functions
• New TAKEOFF REF pages with more parameters and with data uplink functions
• Data uplinks of alternate airports short-list, long-list, and inhibits
• Route data printout simulation
• Four FIX INFO pages and additional data entry formats
and many other new details are included in the NG FMC ...
The manual describes all details; it can be downloaded before purchasing the product. See link below.
Bonus 1 -- The simulation of multicolor LCD CDUs:The flight deck may be equipped with LCD CDUs (liquid crystal displays). LCD CDUs show text from the NG FMCs in multicolor. (NG FMCs also work with conventional CRT CDUs; those just show all text in green.)
Bonus 2 -- The Wind & OAT corridor tools:• A tool on the Instructor can gather wind & OAT data from the internal planet weather model along the coordinates of the active FMC route and then fill a special text field on the Instructor screen with the scanned data. This text can be copied and used in external documents.
• Vice versa, the data in the text field can be edited or entirely pasted from an external flight plan weather document and then be embedded in the planet weather model. This way your flight plan weather will very much agree with the weather in the simulated flight scenario.
• The read and write system can handle five different airline specific formats that most companies use in their standard dispatch operations.
Bonus 3 -- The SIGMET tools:• Create special weather areas manually using the standard SIGMET format and embed these areas in the planet weather model.
• Or download a worldwide list of current real-world SIGMETs from the Internet and embed these in the planet weather model. This may be done by clicking a button, or the system may do it automatically circa every half an hour.
• Or copy a list of SIGMETs from an external flight plan document, paste it in a special text field on the Instructor screen, and embed these SIGMETs in the planet weather model by a simple mouse click. This way the weather in the simulated flight will agree with your flight plan documents.
The manual explains all features; it can be downloaded free of charge:Please click on the image below to download the manual. Note: The manual contains bookmarks. In your PDF reader you may want to click "Show bookmarks" or the related icon to display the bookmarks list.

Dear Hardy,
Thank you for this amazing update (this can not be stressed enough) and enabling us (enthusiasts along with professionals) to experience further evolution of our beloved Queen. I am ready to support your hard work, just waiting for the online store to enable its purchase.
Thank you!
[EDIT]
Having just read through the manual, the wind & OAT as well as SIGMET add-ons alone are worth the upgrade. Besides many NG FMC features, I am looking forward to utilize the Flap Speed Management and Holding Pattern Entry Guide the most. :)
This bit of exceptional software gets better constantly.
It is the closest I will ever come to spending unlimited educational and unrestricted hours on a 744 flighdeck, and for that privilege, I remain obliged.
Best- C
Amazing piece of work once again Hardy, thank you.
Steve
Hi Hardy, just purchased a license and getting to grips with it now.
Amazing work as always and thank you for your ongoing support over the years, hopefully many more to come ;)
Regards, Steve.
Hardy, (again) a real masterpiece! Thank you very much!
Thank you Hardy. Very glad to support you. You should install a "donnation link" because you really deserve support for your enthusiastic work! Looking forward trying it out this evening. Hopefully Aerosoft will have it then, because I always buy my online stuff there if possible...
Thank you Hardy,
that makes an old guy feeling like a youngster.
Regards Robert
Great News Hardy!
Congratulations !!!! ( for us all )
Having a store in Europe would be great due to the taxes we have to pay if buying from outside the EEC...
Simware or Aerosoft would be gould options, I think.

The Aviation Megastore is based in the Netherlands. And if you are not living in the EU, you don't have to pay VAT. Just make sure your address is correct. Fair disclosure: I use Aviation Megastore for any PSX related updates (up until now, Navdata).
Cheers,
Downloaded and installed - so easy! As said above, this is worth it just for the weather enhancements. Can't wait to try it out this evening.
Many thanks, Hardy!
M
Thanks Hardy for all your time and passion developing both PS1 and PSX through the years. The NG FMC looks like a masterpiece!!
John
AH! Thx Andrej, I thought Megastore was also in Australia...
Just bought it :-)
I'm as happy as I was in 1997, and 2014 when I bought PS1, then PSX.
Thank you SO SO MUCH Hardy for sharing your Passion and Talent with us!
Eager to try out the new Weather features, but too busy with a major network update at IPMA, so probably not until next weekend :-(
I have quit using PFPX, and now use mostly Simbrief. Hope it's compatible with their OFP aloft weather data.
A 71 year old kid is very pleased again!
Thank you Hardy.
Kind regards,
Frans Spruit EHAM
Thank you, Hardy! Another happy customer here. Very simple installation process: Had it running within seconds! I haven't gotten the chance to try the new features yet, but from a quick first look everything seems to work smoothly, and the new LCD CDUs are great! I don't know if it's just a psychological thing, but it feels much more pleasant to read white text on black background rather than the green one.
Looking forward to any future products from you as well!
Thank you Hardy!
Just bought and installed in less than a minute....
Now to spend many hours/days/weeks exploring the new addon to a great masterpiece!!
Makes me feel like a young kid again!
Hardy, is it possible to expand the Apron with it's own NG weather forum. It makes read back easier, thanks
Awesome - BIG thank you Hardy :D
Just ordered and downloaded just to find myself abroad with my new laptop without PSX installed yet - typical :D
Anyway - something to look forward to when returning later this week.
Cheers
Kurt
Hello Hardy,
for the next update of NG: PERF INIT 2L
Nichts für ungut, Robert
Hello Robert,
PERF INIT 2L? Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Could you start a new thread if you noticed something that needs to be discussed in detail?

Steff
Amazing, Hardy - just amazing. Thank you.
Please take the rest of the month off!
Peter
Absolutely bloody brilliant!
Read the manual at work today and got VERY excited to get home and try.
Thanks, you are a genius! Seriously!
Regards
Malcolm
It just gets better and better.
A big thank-you, looking forward to use the new features and learn more about the differences between ,,old" and ,,new" FMC.
Viele Grüße,
Dirk
Wow! Just flew the RNAV 20 into KGPI, which is full of RF-leg fun, on my desktop PC (moved house a couple months ago and don't have the big sim back together yet) and the airplane flew it absolutely beautifully. Can't wait to try the enhanced weather stuff once I have the real simulator back in service, too. Thanks Hardy! Really next level stuff.
Wow, Hardy, excellent expansion and well done, as ever!
Thank you very much for this great tool!
I hope that many licenses will be bought, you absolutely deserve the gratification!
Best Regards,
Sebastian
Thank you Hardy for all your hard work and updates over the years. I have Just downloaded this and looking forward to trying it out.
Hi Hardy,
magnificent - thanks for a nice (almost)-birthday present. :) ... and also thanks for the beautiful manual. I am surprised that there is so much more to learn with NG FMC, much more than I expected.
And also thanks for the - IMHO - moderate pricing for the update which made me not hesitate one moment to upgrade.
Keep up the great work; looking forward to all the future updates.
Markus
I would agree with Chris, the KGPI RNAV (RNP) RWY 20 into Glacier Park International is fun. It's also a very neat airport for demonstrating any number of things with PSX and the NG FMC. First, the FMC navigates the RF legs really well. And you can see the flap extension points on the ND as advertised.
But beyond the NG FMC components, it's also good to watch just how nicely the whole approach comes together. The aircraft descends properly all the way to the FAF (and beyond!), hitting the altitudes and reducing speed as long as the crew remembers to extend the flaps on schedule.
Setting up for the RWY 20 approach via the ANGIL transition makes for a really nice demo scenario to save for when you need it.
Thank you all for the kind comments!
Aerosoft Germany & USA too just added the package to their shop.
Regards,
|-|ardy
Hi Will
setting up such a scenario is far beyond my current knowledge and capabilities, but I would nevertheless love to see it and take part. The beauty of PSX is it makes it all possible!
Would it be possible to provide a situation file of such please?
I understand if this is not possible, but you don't get if you don't ask!
Thanks
Regards
Malcolm

Can't wait to start learning this thing deeper.
Hardy, as has been said here by many, your efforts are always appreciated and financial support is perfectly normal.
I sincerely hope you 'll be able to continue to make a living out of something you are passionate about.
Nevertheless, don't forget to take care of yourself.
Charles
Hardy, did you include the following 747-400 bugs in your NG FMC? Or is the service bulletin already included?
747-400 NG FMC BP4 available since 2/2019 (SB 747-34A3125):
Unable to load UM74 if TO [pos] is lat/lon;
AFN Logon position rounding incorrectly;
CPDLC uplink print issues - missing text;
Missing report prompt for Confirm Assigned Route uplinks;
CPDLC stuck in sending; unable to respond to uplinks.
No joke.
Next Honeywell NG FMC Upgrade coming in December 2020.
Hoppie
Hi Hardy,
bought my license today from Aerosoft Germany and it looks amazing. It seems to me, that i will have plenty hours of fun with that. Thank you very much :)

Hardy,
Thank you very much for your hard work! It is so exciting to begin learning this new option.

BTW, trying to charge the software to my credit card via Aerosoft USA triggered the automatic fraud alert system at my (very large American) credit card company. Fortunately, it wasn't much trouble to call the recommended phone number and authorize the online purchase/transaction.
I have a distant memory that I had a similar problem in the past, possibly because I asked that my credit card security parameters be set to very conservative levels. This of course means that I get more false alarms than most others. I am passing this info along just in case others are similarly affected.
Thanks for great addition to already complex simulation. Really love weather corridor, sigmets (this is brilliant). Ng Fmc alone is simulation per se :-) Great work !
Best regards
Vito
Thanks Hardy! Loving the new feature set.
Thank you for the great addition to an already awesome product and
thank you very much for your hard work Hardy!
Hi Hardy,
Thank you so much again for your hard work to enable all of us to enjoy our aviation hobby.
And I am now really curious and excited about the next MTW or EMBDTS encounter. Last year I had a simulated flight along the Andes from Ushuaia to Mexico (with some stops in between) but the air was so "boring" calm although there were MTW SIGMETS along the way :(
And I will definitely look into the deviation feature - hoping some expert can shed some light on how to prepare and fly Diversions properly, please :D Britjet or Jon?
I also hope you can enjoy some vacation really soon to relax and recharge your batteries.
Best regards, Holger
Hello Hardy,
I just bought the NG FMC from Aerosoft Germany. Copied the file as it was in the Extras Folder(no unzipping done)
an started PSX (10.96). But unfortunately nothing happens. Showing no extra licences installed
and so of course no NG FMC available. Running the sim under Win 10 Pro.
Please help what I can do. Reset of the Computer also didn`t help.
Cheers
Hello falconeye,
the subfolder is called "Extra", not "Extras". Did you create this subfolder manually?
What file (exact file name) is in your "Extra" subfolder, and what is its file size?
Regards,
|-|ardy
Sorry, yes the Name of the Folder is "Extra". Not created by me.
Filename is "NextGenFmc"
Size is 284 kB.
I have PSX installed also on my MAC but normally don't use it because it is too slow. I have
now updated to the newest Version, copied the Licence file in the Folder and voila on the MAC it is
working! So it seems the Licence file is ok. Have no clue what could be the Problem on the Windows PC.
The complete file name is: NextGenFmc.license
The exact size is: 290.544 bytes (295 KB on disk)
Does your Windows computer set any file read protection on this file?
What's in your Aerowinx/Logs/errors.txt?
|-|ardy
Now it works! Just downloaded the file again from the Aerosoft site. The size is 290.258 Bytes and not 290.544.
But it works. Thank you Hardy and Gute Nacht.
On the Mac it's 290.544 bytes. Maybe Windows uses a different byte unit.

On my Win10 I see file size 290.258 Bytes and that works well.
The disk storage size is 290.816 Bytes but I guess this may differ depending on block size or file system used.
Best regards, Holger
Curious. File sizes between Mac/Unix and Windows are notoriously different for text files, due to the LF-only and CR+LF conventions. But in this case the Mac has the larger file. And binaries are binaries. ?!?!?
Hi guys,
I promise I am reading the manual twice a day :-), but there is one question left. May be I didn´t found it in the manual.
Long haul Flight: Will the weather/wind set up using the corridor be updated during the flight or stays it static all the time ?
Best
Steff
Remember that you can create the corridor text in one of two ways: by putting text into the corridor's text box, or by interrogating the PSX weather model.
When you manually cut-&-paste winds from your flight planning document into the corridor's text box (or when you otherwise write, edit, or submit text to that box), you are telling PSX what you want the winds to be at those points. That data will only be updated when you update them. In the case of realistic, real-world long-haul flight plans, those winds from the flight planning documents are forecast winds. There is no guarantee that the forecast winds will mimic the actual winds, but since these wind forecasts are only updated every 6 hours in the real world, it's usually not practical to ask the flight ops office for a new winds aloft forecast while enroute. By the time the new forecast would reach your aircraft, you're there, and you know what the winds are. :-) Plus, they're forecast anyway, so the accuracy isn't expected to be 100%. So in the real world, you would get one set of forecast winds during the flight planning phase, and in PSX you'd cut-&-paste that wind forecast once into the corridor text box. Of course, if you get an updates forecast from your dispatch office, you could repeat the cut-&-paste into PSX. But PSX won't update the corridor automatically - you would have to do it.
Similarly, when you create the text corridor by interrogating the PSX weather model, that text will only be generated (and the corridor defined) when you ask PSX to create the corridor's text. In other words, the corridor is only created or updated when you ask it to be created or updated. However, in the second case, the corridor comes from the PSX world, and that weather within the corridor may change. The upper wind model is dynamic, in that the winds aloft are created from an interpolation between the METARs at the surface and the PSX jet stream model at the tropopause. In this case, as the METAR's change over time (and/or if you change the jet stream by dragging its indicator line), the winds aloft within PSX would change. So the winds over Dar es Salaam might be different at midnight than they were at noon. But the actual text corridor won't change until you interrogate the PSX world again, and ask for a new corridor text to be generated.
(Hardy will correct me if I'm wrong.)
Hi Will,
thanks for the explanation. Understood now better...
Best
Steff
Thank you, Hardy. Downloaded and installed very easily. Now for many, many more hours of pleasure as I get my head around this upgrade. :)
Thanks again for the kind comments, gentlemen.
Steff, Will, you need not update the corridor. When the METARs change, the weather model gets the new METARs automatically. You need not tell it something that it already contains.
The wind at the lowest corridor altitude will be interpolated with the surface wind of the nearest METAR.
Regards,
|-|ardy
Quick question regarding corridor.
I am using format B. If I only have winds for one flight level per waypoint and enter it in said format but omit all other levels, would PSX flag it as deficient and not allow corridor creation, or will it interpolate all other (format B) missing altitudes with the planet weather setting winds?
Put simply, can I only enter one altitude per waypoint? If so, can I enter each waypoint like this? (one flight level only and all others missing completely (with nothing below it)):
DINIM
300 270/020 -50
Thank you and best regards,
Mariano
No, you can't. This format is unknown.
Even if you need just one altitude, enter the same data in five different altitudes that are at least 100 feet apart and in ascending order:
DINIM
304 270/020 -50
303 270/020 -50
302 270/020 -50
301 270/020 -50
300 270/020 -50
|-|ardy
Thanks, Hardy.
That will work :-)
Best regards,
Mariano
Good job ,thanks a lot Hardy
Hardy,
Thanks for the great work you're doing and the realistic system simulations, I'm an old owner of PS 1.3 but I have been away from Aerowinx for years and I'm totally out of date on all of the updates, addons, and simulator pipelines, Please forgive me if I will be asking questions probably been asked multiple times before, I'm trying to get back up to date.
I'm working on building a full size cockpit using mostly actual aircraft parts and interfacing everything to PSX. My first question; Is there an update to purchase to update PS 1.3 to PSX? If not does the new purchase of PSX will include the latest NG features or that will be an additional purchase?
I want to thank you guys in advance for helping me getting up to date on PSX and for helping interfacing hardware and addon softwares, and for sure I'm gonna need help on some code writing from the experts, this is gonna be a new and difficult project for me.
Regards,
Sam
Sam,
welcome back.
PSX is not an update to PS1.3. PSX is a completely new universe rewritten from scratch in the years 2008 through 2014. All PSX service updates after 2014 are free of charge. PSX is available on DVD and can be purchased from these retailers: http://aerowinx.com/html/retailers.html
The last PSX DVD edition was produced in 2017 and doesn't include the NG FMC upgrade. The NG FMC upgrade remains a separate product.
Thank you.
Regards,
|-|ardy
Great Hardy,
Thanks for your fast reply, I'm gonna purchase it from FlightDeckSolutions.com and will go from there.
Hi Hardy,
I read the previous post from someone who upgraded via the Aerosoft site and couldn't upload it via Windows. I had, and still have the same problem. It downloaded directly into the 'extra' file once the sim had re-started and created it but it does not show on the sim as license installed. It is definitely the correct file and hasn't been unzipped. All instructions followed precisely.
Have you had any similar queries or do you know any possible solution ?
Thanks
Hi,
when the file is copied to Aerowinx/Extra while PSX is running, you need to restart PSX. PSX detects the license during sim start only.
Regards,
|-|ardy
Thanks Hardy,
I'm sure I did that but will re-do.
Thanks
Thanks Hardy !
That worked - oversight on my part.
Looks amazing - really appreciate all of your devotion to this.
I purchased PSX 3 weeks ago; I will be buying this update next payday; I work in retail. I have no hesitation spending this money. My Grandmother first bought me PS1.3 age 12; a time when I used to have flying lessons in Cessna 150s; unfortunately my eyesight was too poor for ATPL training and life gave me other options; thanks for all your hard work in creating the new version Hardy; wish there was still a ring bound manual like the original that I lost years ago! In short I just want to convey that as a new but old PS1/X user, you havent got to justify your reasons for charging for an updated CDU/FMS system to me. In my opinion the price you charge is a fraction of what many other sim makers/addon makers would charge if they had the capability and dedicated userbase we have to create such a brilliant 744 platform ;)
Thank you.
Welcome back :-)
|-|ardy
|-|ardy,
Just wondered if you thought about the posibility of selling these updates to JustFlight for UK customers?
Just a thought :)
C
I'm sorry, the updates won't be sold by other retailers.
All retailers on my list sell to international customers anyway.
Regards,
|-|ardy
Hi,
The NG FMC looks really great, nice work. I have PSX on my laptop and desktop, if I buy this can I use my license to upgrade both versions? Thanks.
Hi, if both aren't used by two different persons at the same time, then yes.
Thanks,
|-|ardy
Perfect, thanks.
Thank you Hardy for all your hard work and updates over the years. I have Just purchased the NG FMC and looking forward to learning how to use it.
I have been a simmer since back in the 90`s, Aerowinx is by far the most complex and enjoyable simulation to date. I am testing and playing around with MSFS as my new scenery generator and I am close to having the perfect combination in which I strive for.
A true to life 747 simulation and the eye candy to compliment it.
You are a remarkable man who has given us hobbyists many hours of enjoyment and I am delighted to support your project.
Many thanks
18Hazelwood.
I think it's only now, after struggling and giving up on PS1 and 1.3 and then buying PSX and really struggling with it too, and dumping it, that I've come to appreciate what an amazing piece of work this really is. And the more so knowing that it's like this because of you Hardy and an incredible community here on your forum. Thank you and everyone. Better late than never.
I'm back with PSX after seeing 18hazelwoods's work in bringing PSX and MSFS2020 together with WidePSX from J-P. And at last, after using the PMDG 747-400 and 747-8, I've reached the point where I'm starting to understand PSX and enjoy it. I echo 18hazelwood in his sentiment that we now have the very best 747-400 available for a PC and it can be married to the very best and realistic, of out-of-the-window views from MSFS 2020.
And I have to mention 3 other people to whom I want to add my thanks. Britjet, emrydc8 and Captain Al for the training videos. I've had BACARS downloaded and installed without a clue as to what it was but wow, now I've figured that out too so thanks to Garry, Jeron and Simfest for that.
I too just bought the NG FMC and more and am looking forward to adding it to the mix.
Thank you Hardy.
Wanted to echo the sentiments here and also say thank you, Hardy! As always, an amazing piece of software that I take pride in supporting even if I don't get as much time to explore it as I would like.
A bit late to the party, but I've finally got it! Thank you Hardy for the update!

Me too - just got it today. Glad to enhance this fine piece of software but more importantly supporting Hardy's efforts. Thanks Hardy!
Hardi,
I have been working hard studying the functions of this great simulator after upgrading from PS1-3. Today I upgraded to the NGC FMS. I installed the license in the EXTRA Sub-Directory, but PSX does not seem to detect it in the check box on the instructor page. Maybe I am just not set up correctly. Any hints on what would cause this would be helpful.
Regards, Charles
Quit PSX.
Make sure the license file is in Aerowinx/Extra/ and not unzipped.
Then start PSX and check the About/Quit page to see if the license is detected.
Does that help?
Charles, does Will's tip help?
PSX only detects the license during sim start.
If you install it while PSX is running, you won't see any change until PSX is restarted.
Regards,
|-|ardy
To all,
Just an update. Got it to install OK after carefully reading the NGC manual. Page 1 had the clue where it reads "Download the file 'NextGenFmc.license' ". My file name had extra characters attached.
Thanks for your replies. I read every post and try to keep up with all the topics presented.
Charles
Glad to hear.
Regarding these extra characters: Did you attach them yourself or were they attached by the retailer's download system? If it's the latter, do they provide instructions to remove these characters?
Thank you for purchasing the NG FMC.
|-|ardy
I received it with my name attached. I notified the store that I had a problem and asked for a second download because of possible corruption and the requirement for the file being zipped. I fixed the file and notified the store what was wrong. They immediately replied and said that they were about to to tell me what was causing the problem. So everything is good now. Your sales locations are responsive.
Thanks for your follow-up too. Looking forward to get up to speed with PSX now.
Charles
Hello Hardy,
I've also purchased the NG FMC. It's a nice addon for the best sim I have. It is not cheap but you deserve it.
The quality of the sim and the addon are excellent! I hope you have more plans for the future.
Greetings,
Alex Aartsen
Hello Alex,
thank you!
