Title: Logic of message "not on intercept heading"
Post by: Hardy Heinlin on Tue, 3 Sep 2019 17:59
Good evening, another quiz for the astronauts:

We know, when the pilot executes a route modification that puts the new active leg away from the current aircraft position by more than 2.5 nm, LNAV will maintain the last heading.

If this last heading will not intercept that new active leg, the message "not on intercept heading" should appear ...

(A) ... when pushing EXEC while LNAV is already engaged.

(B) ... when LNAV is armed while another roll mode is engaged.

In PSX it's just (B). The message can't appear when LNAV is already engaged.

In the real FMC both (A) and (B) might be true. I'm not sure.
