Thanks. By the way, the Engine Failure After Takeoff video may be a bit busy because I was doing the PNF duties as well, so there is no delineation between who is doing what. Sorry, I didn't have an FO to help me. The picture I posted on the page is what some instructors refer to as "The Dance," because it's so scripted in the sim. Actually, from the three-engine approach, you do a missed approach and then they fail a second engine at 1000' and you finish your ride with a two-engine visual approach and landing. I didn't do the missed approach because I wanted to keep it under 15 minutes. Here's the checklist I used for the Engine Severe Damage.

P.S.: I have a question on "VNAV Approach Part 1" ...
As we know, when engaging VNAV -- https://youtu.be/Tiw56Lcu-y8?t=590 -- the SPD bug jumps up, and you quickly reopen the MCP SPD window and turn the bug back down. To prevent this jump, is it allowed to set the A/T ARM switch to OFF before engaging VNAV, and then back to ARM after the bug is reset? Another trick which I learned from Peter is to set the FMC SEL SPD to your desired bug speed before engaging VNAV. Do some airlines not allow these tricks?

As for the VNAV question, I think Peter's technique is the one most used. In fact, I can't remember but I think I might have covered inserting the speed on the LEGS page, or VNAV page, under one of the other VNAV videos. I have never seen anyone disarming the A/T toggle switch for this, but I guess you could. I know when you hand fly in the terminal area, you can disengage the A/T at the yoke but, as you know, every time the PNF sets in a lower altitude and presses FLCH or VNAV (altitude intervenes) the A/T will re-engage. One way to stop this annoyance is to disarm them at the MCP.

Thanks, Hardy. I don't know what happened to change it. I had to reload Open Broadcaster Software so maybe the default mic settings are better. I think I need a better mic. I'm using a cheap, Radio Shack tie-clip mic.

I think the mic is OK. In the previous videos there is a very intensive "underwater" effect. This comes from the digital denoiser, not from the mic.

Question on the VHHH  engine out escape tutorial:

When I set up a VHHH take off situ to work with this scenario I got the end result to come out pretty much as in your video, but noticed that the first PBD entry I added got labeled SMT01 on the FMC instead of SMT02 in your demo.  Overall route result was the same except for numbering difference.  I did start with a different RT1 in the FMC, but everything else was pretty much as in your video.  I seem to remember discussions in earlier posts about numbering of PBD waypoints being quirky depending on the FMC programming, but haven't checked the Bulfer notes on this lately.

At any rate, it was very instructive.

Hi Torrence,

in the real FMC and in PSX there is an internal counter for this purpose that is reset on flight completion. Every entry that requires a waypoint sequence number will increase that counter, no matter whether it's RTE 1 or 2, and no matter where in the route the entry is made. Sequence number 00 is used for any PBD or PBPB entry on the PROGRESS 1/3 page in 4L.

The complete answer is that Jon (in 99.99% probability) created a waypoint named SMT01, deleted it and created a new waypoint and this time it received the next counter (2) and became SMT02.

The counter is 01-49 for RTE 1 and 51-99 for RTE 2.

I think we discussed the starter duty limits on another forum a while back and came to the conclusion that Boeing's published figures varied a bit based on whether they were for use by mechanics versus pilots.

I'm still going through all of it cautiously, trying to learn each and every bit, mostly energized by the very didactic way they were created but also the ENERGY brought by the NG FMC update HH brought to live recently.

Probably some of those videos could be updated to the NG logic / features, but that would certainly mean a LOT of work...

Just wanted to say thanks again for making these... with the arrival of the NG FMC has come a mew enthusiasm for VNAV approaches, so your two videos on that topic are especially welcome!

One question, Jon... On your second VNAV approach video, you showed a demo where you extended from the runway threshold fix, and mentioned (at 10:49) that a good time to turn base was when the vertical path deviation scale showed the aircraft being 1000 below the profile. And on your demo, you had the sim paused for a while with the vertical deviation showing 1540 feet below the profile.

I tried that on a downwind leg on a return-to-land circuit, initially with the downwind leg on HDG SEL. The FMC showed me NOT ON INTERCEPT HDG, which I understand, but the vertical deviation scale was missing. So I couldn't use it to determine when to turn base. It wasn't until I was already established on base that LNAV showed me the vertical path scale and pointer. Did I set it up wrong?

When the vertical deviation scale is not displayed, you are in ACT CLB or ACT CRZ. I guess you were at or above your new CRZ ALT.

Aha. Thanks, Hardy, you were right. I flew the circuit again, making sure I was in ACT DES at the right time, and the vertical deviation scale was right where it should have been.

BTW, that 1000' under rule-of-thumb came from an Atlas sim instructor.

Is there an option for me to buy all these videos strictly for personal use? Sometime ago, the videos created by emerydc8 were in my playlist on Youtube and got wiped out. At that point, I wanted to have these videos for offline viewing reference.

For an enthusiast like me, these videos are very valuable.

N.B.: Britjet's videos are much better if you're going to study anything.

My experience is so long as I am signed into to Chrome, then I get a download option on YouTube. However, download is no more than 720p even is 1080 is available.
Alternatively with the owners permission you could look to see if some screenrecording software would do what you need?
