Can anybody explain me how to improve the performance of Dosbox in MacOsX Lion? I tried to find the config file in the library but can't find this file.

I'm not to familiar with DOS so please take in mind youre not explaning to a expert in those things.

It's always a good idea to increase the CPU cycles (by editing the config file or pressing CMD-F12) to about 15-20,000 cycles. At least this works for me to get a smooth PS13  ;)

martin1006

Thanks. This seems to work quite well.

Another question about the numpad. Is a separate numpad working well on a MacBookPro?

I am using Boxer and like the interface, but I am having trouble setting up my CH yoke, pedals, and throttle. Is DOSBox a better choice?

DOSBox at least worked pretty good on my iMac 24 with my Saitek ProFlight equipment (yoke, throttle quad, rudder pedals). As  don't use that Saitek hardware anymore I can't be of any help setting it up, but as I recall it was easy using DOSBox.

Dosbox works pretty well. Only thing what is a little complicated is the numpad. I have nearly al numbers working now except zero. Can't make it work. I use Keymap4MacBook for this.
The performance is good. I can work all day on my Mac using my other programs and let my long haul flights go on. It only takes about 64 mb of CPU usage.
I buy myself this week a joystick and have to see how if I can make it work on Dosbox.

OK, I will give DOSBox a shot.

@stekeller
Actually I like Boxer better. (just installed yesterday) Because the full screen option in Dosbox doesnt work with Dosbox. It crashes when I turn this on on my MacBookPro.

The numpad key is also working very well in Boxer. These days I will get myself a joystick and have to see how this works.

How do you get the numpad key to work in Boxer? That would be great because then I could fly without a joystick for those days when I am working and want a flight going in the background (like you do)

I would like to hear how your joystick experience goes.

With KeyRemap4MacBook

In the preferences I changed only one setting.
Type in the search pane
F6 to toggle "virtual numlock"
Check this option.

Start PS1.
Press fn+F6
The numlock is stil off now
Press regular 6 key on your keyboard and your numlock is on.
Press regular 6 key again and numlock is off.

Your keyboard with 6 pressed is now changed as
7=7
8=8
9=9
u=4
i =5
o=6
j=1
k=2
l=3
m=0

About my joystick!

I'm in China ( not Chinese but Dutch) and have to be sure I buy a "non fake" one.

But you never know. I live in the city where they make this stuff (Shenzhen) so I must be able to buy it at a very cheap price.

Keep you informed.

@stekeller
Okay. About the gamepad or joystick.

I bought today a gamepad of 40 rmb in China. (6 us dollars and 34 cent)
Yes, no typingmistake. Not even 6,5 usd.

I started up PS1 in Boxer and opened the calibration menu.
In 5 minutes I was flying out from Luxemburg!!

The configuration in the FMC is so unbelievable easy.

I tried it also with my X-Plane 10 demo. (don't ask me why, matter of pride and don't giving up)

Could not get the thing working. (not much works anyway in X-Plane anyway)

Hardy, if your PSX is working that well as PS1 still works now you make a very happy Ducthman here in China! A simple dos program wich still works so good after all these years.

Big big compliments for you!

OK, martin1006, so you say that you opened calibration menu in Boxer first and THEN the PS1 FMC configuration? Maybe that is what I am doing wrong.

- Stekeller
Also in Asia now (RJAA)

P.S. If you need help with X-Plane joystick configuration I can help there too. Maybe via PM.

@Stekeller
You can send me a message on my private mail. Its in my profile.

X-Plane 9 is a disaster for me. They don't understand a person like me who travels a lot can't carry pedals, yokes and throttles in his suitcase and backpack. So I have to fly either with the mouse or with a simpel gamepad.

X-Plane 10 is to heavy anyway. Allocates to much memory.

Connecting my gamepad was very easy.

Connect the pad to my MacBook
Start Boxer
(no need to configure anything in Boxer itself!)
Start PS1
Open the FMC and here you are. In 5 minutes done!

martin1006 - I looked and your email is showing as "Private"

Anyway, I travel a lot too (currently in Japan) and another option is an iPhone or iPod touch. There is an XP app that lets you use it as a controller.

Thanks for the advice with Boxer. But configuring my CH yoke/throttle/rudder setup in PS1 does not work right. I will keep trying.

I found you on Skype. Just add me.

The iPhone app is not option for me. It needs a local private netwerk. Means I don't have internet when I connect.

I tried it by the way and it works.
