Hi Derek,

Thanks for your always friendly comments on this forum!
Sad that even the sight of an optometrist will diminish in quality with age.
All humans are equal, even their eyes...

Hopefully you will find other things in life to enjoy!

May be some history:

In 2011 (!) you were patiently waiting for the coming new PSX:

"" but at the age of 74 I do not have years to wait :(  and PS1 has, and I know PSX  will,  give me many hours of pleasure.""
etc. etc.

May be you remember what I wrote back to you:

""Derek,

Don't be afraid ...:-).
You really will fly PSX for many, many years !

Why ?

If you take a random life-expectancy table from internet e.g.
http://www.health.state.ny.us/health_care/medicaid/publications/docs/adm/06adm-5att8.pdf
Nowadays here: https://www.health.ny.gov/health_care/medicaid/publications/docs/adm/06adm-5att8.pdf

You can see that your statistical life expectancy is >>>10 years.
etc. etc.

I don't know the circumstances but can't you play offline using a used laptop? I am just guessing you are moving into care? 1. this shouldn't stop you from communicating here 2. I wish I could help you but you're on the other side of Earth! Kindest Regards. Godspeed.
I got my first copy of PS1@13. I am 35 and own PSX. I don't think I will ever fully grasp the intricacies and engineering of this manmade structure It transcends a 'machine/vehicle'.I think if AI were to become sentient it would have happened already by now (pick your favourite post 1980s airliner)

Gentlemen

The warmth of you responses to my farewell message has been more than expected
from my world wide FRIENDS on this forum, which I still follow.
The only member I have physically met has been Matt Shiels  but i feel I know you all from your contributions over many years. What a wonderful group you are.
I don't recommend growing old but the alternative is worse! I am upright and breathing (as my wife
would say) but not everything is working well. I am grateful that my brain has withstood the ravages of time.
I really miss golf and the many hours I spent flying around the world with the finest flight simulator
ever written.
I have wonderful wife 2 sons, 6 grand childen and 4 great grand chiidren to see me out.
So au revoir not good bye .

Hi Derek,

I have also been part of this forum and community for close to 30 years, though mainly as a "lurker" and not a frequent poster.  Having said that, I love the fact that there are people whose names I recognize immediately, though have never met them, just by virtue of reading the posts in this forum.  Yours is one of those names, along with many others we all know!  Godspeed and happy retirement from the flightsim world!  Enjoy your family to the fullest!

Derek, best wishes to you!

Seeing the quotes from Hessel made me smile, btw :) - he was right!

All the best and stay healthy. I am 72 years old and been flying the Queen since 1995 with the old floppy drive. This is a great simulator from the first day and will always be at the top of my list.
