CDPLC interlink with MCP

Technological advances are not really surprising in aviation. Yet, I am still amazed what are the 'next' things. Here, CPDLC instruction is directly linked with MCP (reducing possibility of pilot deviation :) ). Part of me likes G3000 suite, however I am still not 100% sold on all digital buttons.

Would such thing be possible in 747? I guess, anything is possible, but at what costs. How would it work with old MCP (not digital one)?

Technically, it would absolutely be possible to backport this tech to any plane. However for the 747-400 and -8, it would mean that various MCP windows that are now not automatically changeable must be made controllable by the CPDLC system. But current doctrine does NOT allow CPDLC to also make the decision to "go there" for the pilots -- FL/CH pushing won't be in the program.

Even making the MCP do brrrrrrrr and end up on FL240 after a DESCEND AND MAINTAIN FL240 with a light in the knob starting to blink would be super-difficult to certify on the 747. It could be done, everything can be done, even replacing the whole electromechanical or LCD system by touch screens and iPads could be done. But the development and especially certification costs would be commercially unviable.

Obviously our PSX 747 CAN (and possibly WILL) have all this tech nicely embedded   :-)

Airbus NEO has this; you can load the frequency into the active radio. Very convenient. The 777 acknowledges the cpdlc message with a green status if you dial in the right numbers. Helps a lot in busy EU Airspace.

You could fly in LNAV/VNAV and the changes should apply to FMC. So you only need to review, activate and execute.

There are two CPDLC half-auto levels, so to say. Feed-in to the MCP such as setting the altitude window, waiting for crew to push the "do it!" button. And loading (part of) the route. The latter is far more incorporated than the former. Even the 747 can already load a re-route clearance from CPDLC so that you don't need to re-key it from a printout or even worse, your from-voice notes. Having this load capability is a requirement for several things to really work. CPDLC-DCL is one of them. You get ahead of the queue if you have this capability on your flight plan.

Thank you Jeroen, what are the capabilities within PSX respective your CPDLC in PSX.

CPDLC works 100% with native PSX CPDLC through Hoppie's ACARS.
Integration with MCP or FMC has not been tried yet... maybe later.
