[DEVELOPMENT UPDATE] 747 MCP Hardware

Started by MinsooPark, Mon, 17 Nov 2025 18:03

MinsooPark

Hello everyone,

My name is Minsoo Park, and I'm an independent developer working on a full-scale 747 MCP hardware unit.
This is my first post here on the PSX forum, and I'm excited to finally introduce the project to this community.

I began this development mainly because the 747 has been a personal passion of mine since childhood — my father flew the 747-400 and 747-8 as a captain, so I grew up surrounded by the aircraft. While flying PMDG's 747 for years, I often felt the desire to build something more tactile and realistic. That eventually led me to start constructing a fully functional MCP from scratch.

Acknowledgment

Before sharing the technical update, I want to express my sincere gratitude to Mark, a long-time PSX user whom many of you may know.
His continuous communication and detailed feedback have been invaluable.
Through him, I learned just how passionate and dedicated the PSX 747 community truly is — far more than I ever imagined.
His input has shaped several important decisions in this project, and I'm grateful for the support he has shown from the very beginning.

1. Development Status – PMDG Integration Completed

Over the past months, I've completed full compatibility with PMDG on MSFS and P3D.
All logic and mapping are operational.

A short demonstration video (P3D) is available here:
https://youtu.be/wlLN1ZKHQ78?si=gvJ9hWPyfRquSh0S
https://youtu.be/wlLN1ZKHQ78

Regarding the Asobo 747-8 in MSFS — due to internal limitations, the integration remains restrictive and will require significantly more work.

2. Hardware Status – Complete Structure, Ongoing Detail Refinements

The MCP is essentially complete in terms of functionality and layout.
However, I am still making refinements to improve realism.
Some imperfections you may notice in the images (uneven markings, paint wear, etc.) are from rough bench testing before the final protective coating — production units will, of course, be clean.

✔ Completed / In-Progress Improvements

Backlight upgrade
(higher brightness, improved uniformity, corrected fonts & line weights)

Pushbutton enhancements
(more accurate shape and dimensions)

DSP panel layout decision
→ Initial release will use the 747-400 layout
→ A 747-8 upgrade kit will follow later

Annunciator & backlight color tuning
(Amber/White backlight, Green/Orange annunciators)

3. Entering the PSX Integration Phase (Starting This Week)

This week marks the beginning of full integration work for PSX Aerowinx.

I have already contacted Hardy Heinlin, whose brilliance and long-standing commitment to accuracy I deeply respect.

Over the past few days, I have been analyzing the official manuals and PSXSeecon documentation to understand the IO mechanisms.

With the hardware now stable, I will begin testing the actual communication layer using PSX and refining the interface step-by-step.

Although I am relatively new to PSX itself, I have already purchased the software specifically for this development, and I look forward to learning more through direct interaction with it — and with all of you.

4. What Comes Next

Remaining tasks include:

Final physical detailing
FCC/CE certification
PSX interface development & testing

My goal is to introduce the final MCP before the end of this winter, possibly earlier depending on certification timelines.

Closing

I'm honored to join this community, and I sincerely welcome any feedback, criticism, or suggestions that may help improve this project.
Thank you again to Mark for representing PSX users and encouraging me to bring this project here.

I hope this MCP can eventually become a meaningful addition to the incredible ecosystem that PSX has built over the years.

Warm regards,
Minsoo Park

That address is correct and it works. I just tested it. Could you try again, please?

I've sent again a minute ago.
The big size video file attached would be problem, so I excluded it.
You can check the same video on the youtube link.

Please let me know if you cannot still find my mail.

I still got no mail. I think it went into the spam bucket on the server side, even though my spam filter setting is rather low.

Anyway, I prefer to discuss PSX related things on the forum. So let's discuss it here on the forum, please.

For add-on developers we have this "Networkers" section which is only visible to registered forum members:

Now I got your mail. I'll answer your questions here:

There is just one type of PSX license and that is valid for everyone: Commercial and private.

All PSX retailers are listed here: https://aerowinx.com/html/retailers.html – There are no further retailers.

All documents for developers are here in the "Networkers" section and in your subfolder Aerowinx/Developers. If you have questions regarding network programming please feel free to post them in the "Networkers" section.

Thank you :-)

I hugely appreciate for your kind answer.
As your suggestion, networkers section is quite cool.
I collected some good sources from there and it maybe will not take long to finish works with these.

I will update soon!

Sincerely,
Minsoo Park

Good Morning Minsoo Park. A brief addition to this thread to welcome you to the PSX community. Anyone building a 747 cockpit will agree obtaining hardware components is difficult and anyone willing to help with that is a valuable addition to our community.
Cheers, J.G.
