Question about MSFS 2024 and PSX.NET.MS2024.WASM

For various reasons, it's time for a new computer. I am only interested in installing one MSFS sim on the new machine, not both 2020 and 2024. The criticisms of 2024 seem to be centered exclusively on features that would be irrelevant to me: the partially inop career mode, the problems with control bindings, the buggy default aircraft, the lack of optimized payware aircraft -- none of that is relevant to me, since I will only use MSFS as a scenery generator for PSX.

With that in mind, am I likely to encounter problems with MSFS 2024?

YES.

But, should that stop you?

In aviation, "we" always use tech that is 5+ years old at minimum. 2020 seems not such a bad deal and you can move up once your machine needs to be re-installed anyway, usually two years or so.

As a scenery generator for PSX I find 2024 so much smoother, better looking, faster to load and less faff.  If you are starting from scratch just go for 2024 is my recommendation.

I am only using MSFS2024 as a scenery generator only and I am very pleased with it.

My only add-on is Gary's B744s.  🤣

For FS2024, far more stuff than in FS2020 is "streamed" (esp. scenery, I think), i.e. the dependency on "cloud", servers, bandwidth, connection stability, ISP not throttling, etc, is much higher. May or may not be an issue. (I don't know if there is an "offline" option at all, as (to some degree) in FS2020.)

Cheers,
Martin

Martin,

Found the streaming just works, not had an issue.

Thanks for the insights. I'm optimistic about MSFS 2024.

The new computer doesn't get here until the end of the month so I'll still have some time to think about it, but I think 2024 is the direction I'm going to go.

Yes, many people report it works quite well for them. But obviously much depends on one's geographical location and "infrastructure" (connection type/bandwidth/stability, ISP policies etc), and all of which may change over time. The typical "cloud" problem thus, exacerbated when you depend on data streams in real time as with a simulation. So, still worth considering the cloudiness or otherwise of an application, I suppose. (Clouds have been known to dump on you from a great height... :D ).

my 2 cents here - I have completely transitioned to FS2024 and have'nt even started FS2020 since FS2024 was released.

To be fair I only use it 99% of the time for outsideworld rendering for PSX via WASM which just works amazingly well. Sometimes I have to get a realitycheck as to how butifull and realistic FS2024 looks - it is soooo smooth compared to FS2020.
I know people with a lot of Fs2020 addons has lots of issues - I only use a few 3rd party airports as well as the WASM module in the community folder and have only very few issues besides an occational CTD once a week'ish with a gfx driver issue...
Best regards
Kurt

That's how I've used 2020... I have never actually "flown" anything in 2020 because it seemed like an arduous process to set up my controllers. It's purely been a scenery generator for PSX, and that's how I intend to use 2024.

I have PMDG 737/77W, Fenix A320, and A2A Piper Comanche. No other addon planes. I do have several addon airports, some payware and some freeware. I will eventually make a switch to MSFS2024 or maybe MSFS2026 (or whatever follow up series). However, I am not in a rush to move to MSFS2024, but it is inevitable.

However, I can appreciate MSFS2024 more, if I used it solely as a scenery generator for PSX.

Cheers,
Andrej
