Mac Mini M4 but no joy

Jamie

Hi all,

Just upgraded to a Mac Mini M4, but when I start AerowinxStart.jar nothing really happens except I see the JAVA icon in the Dock.
Couldn't find a specific answer here in the forum. After reading and searching a lot, I found out that the JAVA ARM version doesn't seem to work. Now I'm apparently at the Intel Rosetta version, but still have the same issue: the java icon bounces once on the dock and that's it.
In the /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines I only have the jdk-18.0.2.1.jdk, but maybe that's the wrong version as well?

TLTR: starting PSX only a JAVA icon appears and the Aerowinx menu on top.

Hi,

you need Java 8 instead of 18.

Java 11 works (I'm running 11.0.25). Intel version.

Hi. Jamie and Hardy.

By any chance to you have where to get the Version of Java that is Needed to be able to run PSX on Mac M4 machines?

I had installed a version of Java however got the same issues as you above Jamie.

I have tried a google search for Java 8 Mac M4 download.  No luck so far unless I am missing something. (was thinking must need a version 8 SDK file for Apple silicon).  But unable to find the download I need?

I then take it need to find a way to reinstall the new version Java installed so can then install Java 8?

Jamie may I also ask how are you finding it runs on your MAC Mini M4?

hampt

Hi update think I have installed Java version 8 on my Mac.  However checking version still stuck with JAVA version 23.  Unable to install it with all command prompts that have searched so far.

Seems only way I to completely wipe my Mac and start again....

Hardie

May I ask is it now that given I can't get PSX to work on Mac OS 15.3.1.

Then PSX now is only really for PC and no longer for MAAC?

Hardy Heinlin

Currently I can't support PSX on newer Macs, however, there are many users who do run PSX on newer Macs as you can see in the forum posts.

I think you won't find a Java 8 version for M1 or M4. You need to download the Java 8 version for Intel. That should run on your M4 as well.

Hi Hardie.

Thanks for the quick reply.  At the moment I think having trouble getting java 23 off the machine. so even if had Java 8 might still be conflict because the other version Java .

Anyway will try see if can figure it out. I have had a Mac before where could not get PSX to work on Catalina. But then later installed an even more modern operating system for Mac. and surprisingly got PSX to work no problem.

Anyway will see if I have any luck wit this new MacBook.

Old java versions can be found at https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/downloads/archive/

Java 8 and java 11 will work.

If you want sound you need to install the Intel version and run under Rosetta 2, you will need to install Rosetta 2 if you have not already done so.

... and here is a wikihow on uninstalling Java on Macos:

Hi. flyitlikeyoustoleit

Thank you for that.  I had just also Posted in Apple Silicon, as that seemed a more active post.

I will now try the wikihow.

at the moment I am stuck with this.

java version "23.0.2" 2025-01-21
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 23.0.2+7-58)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.0.2+7-58, mixed mode, sharing)

Fist thing I think is to see if I can clean this up.

Thanks again

I am running MAC OS 15.3.1. think it is. Not sure about rosetta

might have a couple more questions to ask about that also.

Thanks. :)

Hi

Precision Simulator 10.1 requires additional
sound files to work correctly. Please go to

Any ideas what I am doing incorrectly

Thanks

Hi flyitlikeyoustoleit

As per apple silicon post. I seem to have installed the intel java and Rosetta 2

The sim seems to try to start

but then comes up with

Precision Simulator 10.1 requires additional
sound files to work correctly.

Have you or anyone encountered this before. I take it there is something simple I am missing.

You misspelled "u1" in the link. The correct link is: https://aerowinx.com/u1.html

Are you using a very old version of PSX from 2014 or 2015? If so, you need additional sound files; they are stored in "AerowinxU1.upd" which can be downloaded here:

https://aerowinx.com/board/index.php/topic,2841.0.html

Scroll down to "New sound files for version 10.1.0 and higher."
