WX Radar use

I have selected 8/8 Cbs in Instructor/Weather menu. Aircraft altitude is 36000Ft. I see a Cb return on ND at approx 80NM with range 160NM selected . WX Radar is set to AUTO (-2A displayed). When pressing GC switch, I see ground returns located at the edge of ND.
In MAN mode, ground returns are located at 20NM (-2M displayed/Selected). With a tilt of +3, I still see the CB return.
As I reach the CB, with a range of 40NM and a tilt of 0,the return disappear, meaning CB top is well below.
I dont understand why, With a tilt of +3, the CB return is diplayed.

A radar beam is not as thin as a Laser beam. That 3° tilt refers to the vertical centerline of the vertical radar sector, e.g. you may get echoes from up to 5° above that centerline and down to -5° below it, so that you get a vertical sector of 10° in total. That is, in this example, you get a sector that goes from -2° below the horizon to +8° above the horizon.
