Just in case people aren't aware that this is possible with PSX...

I was flying at FL320 the other day and I saw a contrail out the windshield. I looked down at the TCAS and it appeared to be an aircraft approaching on my own airway, but above me. Eventually the aircraft got close enough that I could see from its outline that it was a 747. TCAS didn't give me any alerts because we had good separation, but we passed close enough that I could see the shape of the aircraft out the windshield. Then I saw another contrail... and another. Turns out, I was flying under a major arrival corridor to Tokyo, and inbound aircraft were passing over me one by one. I could see contrails out the window, and diamonds on the TCAS, and I watched a progression of them as I underflew their route.

FlightRadar24 confirmed their existence, and even verified that the first 747 I saw was actually a 747.

What an uncanny matchup between PSX (providing TCAS), and MSFS (providing visuals), and RT/PSXTraffic providing real-world traffic injection.

If you haven't tried it yet, it's worth consideration. PSX+MSFS are linked by Gary's excellent PSX.NET.MSFS, so cockpit and windshield visuals agree. RealTraffic (subscription) then provides real-world aircraft location data, and PSXTraffic (free) injects it into the world. So what you see out the windshield matches what you see on TCAS, with the aircraft livery and type matching what's really happening out there in the real world. (With AIG, also free, you can also see the real-world paint jobs, not just the aircraft type--if the aircraft identified on RealTraffic is the EVA Air Hello Kitty plane, you see the Hello Kitty plane out the window.)

Maybe this is obvious to some people... but I grew up in the era when PSX wasn't connected like this to the outside world. So it's fun and amazing to me.

My 2 cents, anyway.

You don't have to use a subscription service. FSLTL provides traffic injection and modeling free. There are other free options as well. WIDEPSX will display this traffic on TCAS as well.
Traffic injection will also be coming at some stage with BeyondATC and  SayIntentions ATC Apps, which will not only control other traffic but handle your ATC needs. Neither has the injection at this stage, but I've used both in PSX.
SayIntentions is a fairly pricey subscription service whereas BeyondATC is a one-off purchase. Both are in Beta but show great promise.

Personally I'm a fan of SayIntentions, despite the cost. It's completely run online by AI servers.

Hello everybody,
just to clarify: FSLTL will inject the traffic data first into MSFS, after this the traffic is taken by WidePSX (for example) to PSX, right?

There is no possibility for FSLTL that the traffic is send directly to PSX, as this is the case with TrafficPSX ?

Because I'm using PSX standalone and without the direct connection of FSLTL to PSX there would be still no way to receive live traffic inside PSX in standalone mode. Currently I had subscribed the LiveTraffic...

Greetings, André

Will

Hello Andre,

RealTraffic connects directly to PSX and will put live aircraft onto the PSX TCAS, no other programs needed. However, it requires a subscription.

That's true, but you cannot compare PSXTraffic with FSLTL. In UK's football terminology: PSXTraffic plays in the Premier League while FSLTL plays in the National League. :-)

PSXTraffic is real time live traffic, with static parked aircraft at airports according to time of day and day of the week.
Paying a bit more gives you a bit more.

Hello again,

thanks for your reply, both. I already use PSXtraffic with a monthly subscription inside my stand alone PSX environment. It adds something I don't want to miss anymore...also if we are not able to see liveries or such inside PSX. As FSLTL is not able to direct inject Live Traffic into PSX (or is a subscription-free solution), PSXtraffic is still the only way to have real traffic without to use MSFS...

Thanks, have good flights Gentlemen

Very true, I've let my RT sub expire since I wasn't flying that much, but FSLTL is not as good (but then again, you get what you pay for ;) ).

Considering to re-sub. @Will, are there no discrepancies between MFS2020 traffic and TCAS blibs nowadays?

A slight OT question.

Do you know why real traffic says this, although I have a Navigraph subscription?

I use the program with PSX stand-alone.

Will

QuadFan,

I can't say there are no discrepancies, but with PSX, MSFS, RT, and PSXTraffic, the congruence is amazing. Contrails in the sky match TCAS with excellent results.

Panosl,

You need to use the Navigraph updater to send new nav data to RT.

Will, could you share a screenshot of the settings in PSX (edit: RT...) so I could verify mine? I resubbed RT and am trying it out again. I'm having a few issues I would like to iron out :)

I had the best experience today! (I resubbed RealTraffic after Will's post earlier.)

Using PSX, RT and PSXTraffic I was performing MPH7762 KMIA-EHAM this morning and on taxiing out, I noticed a big blueish B74F just in front of me holding short of RWY 09... Turned out it was the real MPH7762 flight about to departure!

It took off right before me and on climbing out it followed the coastline more than me, Simbrief steered me away from all the pensioners :)

About 7 hours later I came back to the flightdeck while passing Ireland. Turns out the IRL flight was just about 5 to 10NM in front of me! It landed about 10 minutes before me as I adjusted my approach (which initially would send me over SPL for a turn back towards 36R). I managed to catch up with it and parked my B74F next to it  8)

Great stuff!! (Or am I just easily amused?  ;D

Don't think so. It is real fun.
That's why I developed PSXTraffic. Real immersion.

Thanks Nico, it's great stuff and much appreciated. I've been betatesting for LiveTraffic earlier (during my dedicated XP days), so I understand a (little) bit about the amount of work involved.

A question about feedback, what is your preferred way to exchange information or feedback about PSXTraffic?
