Landing distance

Is there any app for iPad, or PC, that can help with calculations of landing distance needed for given weight, weather, runway conditions, autobrake setting, etc.?

TOPCAT has a landing feature. I'm not sure how accurate it is.

I'll second what Bode said, TOPCAT is excellent in that it is comprehensive and realistic. You can get performance sheets for most runways in the world. But it has several disadvantages:

+ Payware
+ Not updated anymore; there will never be any new versions
+ No ongoing product support from developers
+ Online support from third parties only, e.g. other users, no Q&A possible with the developers
+ Doesn't cover all 744 variants
+ Users can't add new aircraft or modify aircraft profiles

So it's kind of like a museum piece, frozen in time, forever stuck in an old iteration (and getting older every day). But that said, it does what it does really well, so well in fact that I'd buy it again if I didn't own it already. Despite the above limitations, it's still very usable with PSX and Professional Flight Planner X (or PFPX), which can integrate abbreviated takeoff and landing data into flight plans.

It's worth the price... just don't expect the kind of support you get from PSX.

TOPCAT also integrates with Hoppie's ACARS so you can beam documents straight from your dispatch desk to your flight deck.

How does one do this?

Steve,

I usually "Send" data from PFPX to TOPCAT.That provides all load data. But I use it for Landing and Take-Off calculations as well. Here I am focusing only on the sending of the message process.

I can send a Loadsheet to my sim, by clicking on ACARS icon.

I select my station as a callsign (in this case STV640). Do note that I am connected to VATSIM (100% of the time).

Then, I select type TELEX instead of LOADSHEET. I use TELEX type for any communication purposes.

I am connected via PSX BACARS and 95% of the time, I receive the message into flight-deck (it prints automatically). Sometimes, especially, when it is too busy, TOPCAT freezes. So, it simulates real world reliability quite well. :)

Cheers,

Andrej,

I'll only be using it for PW Engines but ....

There was a period a few months ago, when a new A320 software pulled a large number of new users into Hoppie's ACARS and polled too agressively for new messages, that the central server got overloaded and started queueing up connect requests. However this was solved in the summer and by now the system load "should" never exceed the reasonable two, three seconds of transaction time. If TOPCAT hangs, and you can just access the ACARS system by web using the link below, there's something else going on.

Hello Steve,

happy to help. Please also, TOPCAT has following engine variants (this is the Aircraft Setup page):

And Engine selection:

EDIT: And this is the Landing Page - you can add a few INOP items. It is an older program, and it is a shame that it was not updated. However, for most simmers it will do.

Hope this helps.
