PSX freeze with MSFS?

Started by Aleks, Sat, 15 Oct 2022 05:14

I am suddenly experiencing that PSX randomøy freeze/stop responding after upgrade to 10.157.
Perhaps unrelated, but usually occurs with Instructor window open.

Is it possible to downgrade and downlod 10.156? If so, where can I find the previous versions?

Thanks.

It's certainly not related to the update, and just pure coincidence.

Are you running any add-ons?

What's your operating system, and did anything change there?

Running «smooth injector» by Gary, MSFS and vPilot (Vatsim).

OS is Win 10 pro 64-bit.

Will test more then.

The only thing that's changed recently is us injecting elevation 3 times a second instead of once every 2 seconds.

Having said that my PSX instances have been stable.

Any other reports of this happening with the MSFS link?

For me it works fine. The only lockup problem i had was not PSX, but MSFS locking up. I solved it by reducing PSXs framerate to 60/3. (That was while using the alpha version of the link)

Hi Aleks and all,

Consider either updating or rolling back your graphics drivers. I know that the latest nVidia drivers (522.25) are causing random crashes particularly with MSFS. Whilst I didn't see crashes with PSX, I did experience some very unusual frame rate fluctuations. I rolled back to 517.48 and haven't had any issues since.

At least this will help to eliminate some possibilities in what may be causing your issues.

Steve.

Yes. I've had my main PSX instance completely freeze up two times recently (1-2 weeks?). I needed to use the windows Task Manager to kill it. And I was using PSX.NET.MSFS. Nvidia driver 516.94.

Never seen that before (but only used PSX for ~2 months)

Oh that's worrying... I shall do some digging.... I always run the router behind simstack switch.

Just experienced another freeze. The first post was when flying online (Vatsim). This time was offline.
Had only PSX, MSFS, "smooth injector" and BACARS running.

Everything worked fine from EGLL to EIDW and then in the middle of descent PSX froze.

I have not done any driver update since February (using AMD 6800XT), so it should not be a factor.

One of the few known cases that PSX can and will freeze, is if its data output (in this case to the injector) is no longer processed (in this case by the injector). PSX uses TCP, which will block the output if it cannot guarantee lossless operation. A typical common case for this is when two PSX programs are linked up over the internet and the link hiccups.

There are programs, such as the various PSX Routers, that are designed to counteract this kind of malfunction. It could be relevant for testing to insert such a program between PSX and the injector and see whether that shines light on the issue.

For everyone searching the forum: The above freeze problem (caused by an add-on) is discussed and probably solved in this thread:
