Decent 747 for P3DV5??

Hi Guys,
Does anyone have a 747 model that works with P3DV5?
I am currently using the PSX 747 model but it looks like it is not designed for external views. The flaps deploy when you turn on the lights and the gear is totally missing, even though the plane seems to be at the correct height.

I know POSKY have freighters for P3D but I don't know how to convert their old passenger liveries so I can get a passenger model...

I'm using P3Dv4.5 but have the same issue with flaps deploying when the strobes are set to both, using the simfest BA models. I don't think Gary has ever had the flaps issue, which is presumably why he isn't able to diagnose the cause. All I can think of is that my P3D and PSX run on the same machine, not over a network - could that cause the issue? M

My PSX is on a separate machine to all my scenery software (P3DV5, X-Plane 11 and MSFS 2020 all on one machine for comparison testing).
When using either PSX.Net or WidePSX the result for the PSX 747 is the same.... If I use the default 747 in MSFS 2020 then all animations are correct with both.
I am guessing this is something P3D related with the ported POSKY 747.

Have you tried either of these 2 links?

https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/24732/fsx-project-opensky-boeing-747-400-complete/
https://www.rikoooo.com/downloads/viewdownload/55/716

I don't remember which one I used, but my models work flawlessly on P3Dv5. I think it's just the flaps motion that's not working, so they jump into position, but other than that no issues. Lights working as they should.

I, too, run networked.

Hi Sebastian,
I have tried the POSKY files and have the rickoo but they seemed to cause texture issues in P3DV5... May run them through Modelconvertor and see what happens....

Alex,

I use the "Boeing 747-400 Mega Package Volume 5" as mentioned by Sebastian and don't have any issues in P3Dv5.2HF1. Even the flaps move smoothly.

Randy,
How did you install the pack? I have it but it claims it is for P3Dv3 only.

Well managed to install the POSKY packs, but the aircraft does not have correct animations using either wide PSK or PSX.Net.

Will keep investigating...

Hi Alex,

Sorry for not responding to your last post. I somehow missed it (I suspect I was still online when you replied and I hit "Mark All Messages as Read" before I logged out, not realizing there was another message).

I installed into P3Dv5 using the add-on folder. First, I created a temporary folder somewhere and ran the "Boeing_747-400_Mega_Package_Vol.5_FSX_&_P3D.exe" file, selecting "Custom Installation" and extracting to the temporary folder. I then created a folder called "PSX_B747-400" in the Documents\Prepar3D v5 Add-ons folder, into which I copied the extracted Effects, SimObjects and Sound folders. In the Effects folder, I renamed "Opensky_sparks.fx" to "Opensky_sparks.fx.off". I then created an add-on.xml file in the PSX_B747-400 folder with the following contents:

<SimBase.Document Type="AddOnXml" version="4,0" id="add-on">
    <AddOn.Name>PSX_B747-400</AddOn.Name>
    <AddOn.Description>POSky B747-400 for use with PSX.</AddOn.Description>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>SimObjects</Category>
        <Path>.\SimObjects\Airplanes</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
   <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Effects</Category>
        <Path>.\Effects</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
   <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Sound</Category>
        <Path>.\Sound</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
</SimBase.Document>

I also created a couple of batch files to enable/disable certain P3D effects. The first one is called "P3Dv5 - Effects OFF for PSX.bat" which I run before using P3Dv5 for visuals:

@echo off
cd /d D:\Prepar3D v5\Effects
ren fx_WheelWetSpray.fx fx_WheelWetSpray.fx.off
ren fx_WheelSnowSpray.fx fx_WheelSnowSpray.fx.off
ren fx_WetEngineWash.fx fx_WetEngineWash.fx.off
ren fx_tchdwn_s.fx fx_tchdwn_s.fx.off
ren fx_tchdwn_m.fx fx_tchdwn_m.fx.off
ren fx_tchdwn.fx fx_tchdwn.fx.off
ren fx_SnowEngineWash.fx fx_SnowEngineWash.fx.off

The other batch file, which I run before using P3D alone is called "P3Dv5 - Revert PSX Effects to ON.bat" and contains:

@echo off
cd /d D:\Prepar3D v5\Effects
ren fx_WheelWetSpray.fx.off fx_WheelWetSpray.fx
ren fx_WheelSnowSpray.fx.off fx_WheelSnowSpray.fx
ren fx_WetEngineWash.fx.off fx_WetEngineWash.fx
ren fx_tchdwn_s.fx.off fx_tchdwn_s.fx
ren fx_tchdwn_m.fx.off fx_tchdwn_m.fx
ren fx_tchdwn.fx.off fx_tchdwn.fx
ren fx_SnowEngineWash.fx.off fx_SnowEngineWash.fx

I just have them located beside the P3Dv5 and Aerowinx icons on the Desktop and run them as needed. Obviously, if you use them, you would have to adjust your path accordingly.

For your animation issue, are you sure you don't have "Pause on Task Switch" enabled in P3D General Options?

Randy

Hi Randy,
Will remove my installs and redo using your method, although the aircraft all show up now.
I have a separate machine for P3D so it never loses focus and "Pause...." is turned off.
I will also amend my install to turn off the P3D Posky effects as I did notice when I tried a different livery that the wheels starting "blowing smoke out front" during take off....

Will let you know how it goes.. :)

Ok. I'm running on the same machine so needed that option unset. Also, the only model I used was the British Airways one, with the RR engines. And, this was with WidePSX.

Randy

If I use the British airways one I get no gear when parked at the gate in YSSY.... Maybe anti-grav is new to the BA 747-400... :)
I have been trying the Qantas 400ER and the RR versions but no difference.

Will play around and see what is happening as I am also getting stuttering when taxiing out.

I'd be curious to see what happens if you try running PSX on the same computer that has P3D on it. Just to rule out a network issue.

Randy

asboyd

Managed to get rid of the stutters... looks like it was a WidePSX issue PSX.Net works fine but no door control.
I am still trying to get the wheels on the ground instead of in it, but at least now the flaps and gear work.

I will keep working on it...
