Re :  Thrustmaster Joystick HOTAS WARTHOG STICK for PC.

Does anyone have feed back for this joystick running on iMac IOS MacOS Big Sur 11.4 ?

Good or bad? Will it function etc ?

Thanks in advance.

Rgds,

Steve.

AFAIK yes it will as a standard joystick.

There are more than 32 buttons though, but regardless, PSX can't see them anyway (not sure if this is a Java limitation or just how the joystick parser is written).

I use a Thrustmaster HOTAS WARTHOG joystick on my iMac with PSX. All buttons work.

Hmm. For me, it only sees the first 32 and nothing more. I'll find which button specifically it can't see and report back.

On the throttle, button 1 is the button on the mini stick of the left throttle.

Button 31 is ENG OPR LEFT IGN.
Button 32 is ENG OPR RIGHT IGN, and can not be seen by PSX.

I see the problem...

Up to this point, PSX index is [Windows - 1].

In Windows FLAP UP is 22, and FLAP DOWN is 23. In PSX they are 21 (correct) and 23 (incorrect). After this point, all the buttons are shifted +1 from where they should be, preventing 32 (31 in PSX) from operating.

I have the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and it never occurred to me to check this until now, because I usually assign HOTAS buttons to keypresses, but I see the same thing... The "ENG OPR RIGHT IGN" switch appears to be unrecognized by PSX.

However, it is recognized by Windows, and I use a Windows app that converts buttons to keypresses, and with that app I've mapped "ENG OPR RIGHT IGN" to F7, which retracts the speed brake. This works fine, as the F7 keypress is recognized by PSX.

It's a workaround, but assigning "ENG OPR RIGHT IGN" to a keypress may fix the issue.

I wonder if it happens for any controller with 32 buttons? I don't think the WH is being treated any differently to any other HID device.

There is some internal issue causing 22 to be skipped and all subsequent buttons being mis-counted.

I have most of the functions I want mapped to the stick, so it's not too much of a problem, but this button specifically is momentary action which would be useful to use (and why I found it didn't work, because I tried to assign it).

Hardy Heinlin

The original question referred to the Hotas joystick, not to the Hotas throttle. I don't have the throttle.

The PSX code allows up to 256 USB buttons.

I understand that...but it doesn't change the fact it is mis-handling the buttons and not working correctly.

Two of us are seeing the same fault.

Do you have any controllers with 32 or more buttons?

It's not the only fault with USB handling I have found. It is also overwriting the T16000M hat with the Warthog stick hat (they are both activating what is reported to be the T16000M stick hat buttons).

T16000M hat buttons are listed 1-8, but the WH stick hat buttons are listed 9-16, and the WH throttle hat buttons are listed 17-24 and also clobber the T16000M hat buttons.

They otherwise operate independently and there is no 3rd party software involved.

My devices are currently ordered T16000M stick, WH stick, WH throttle.

I believe you. As I have the stick only, I have no experience with the other stuff.

Sorry if my last post was a bit harsh. Reading it today it doesn't read very well.  :-[

It's workable - all the major functionality is mapped and working.

I'll try the Thrustmaster TARGET software and see if it can be configured to work around the issue. It can make all three controllers appear as one huge controller, but I'm guessing after the 22nd button, it will still result in the 32nd button being unusable.

Using that method however, the software can be used to send key commands rather than needing to directly map buttons within PSX, so it could bypass the issue completely.

Didn't sound harsh to me. No prob. It was just a technical message.

macOS Big Sur version 11.4 (PSX loaded within my "Applications" directory)

I have just received my new Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog flight stick.  A great stick, however....

PSX 10.0.2. Preferences > USB
I have full functionality, with 29 options.

PSX 10.140. Preferences> USB
"No usable USB device found. Please quit the simulator before connecting a USB device."
Reselecting the check box also makes no difference.

I did a previous fix (on PSX 10.115) with a different stick, a Saitek Cyborg X  and managed to get it to work .

Aerowinx/Preferences/Default.pref

"pref" files contain the USB calibration settings and the option "UsbUnknownIncl=0" which should be set to "UsbUnknownIncl=1" if the joystick has a non-standard component label.

Unfortunately, using the same logic, the Warthog refuses to get recognised on 10.140.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance, Steve.

Sorry, I have no suggestions. If your old PSX version detects the stick, the new version should actually detect it as well.

Anything in Aerowinx/Logs/errors.txt?

OK, one suggestion: Set UsbUnknownIncl=0

This stick is not unknown.

Thanks for the reply Hardy.

I've had a look at my error log. TBH, this code is above my pay grade.

When you upgraded from PSX 10.0.2., did you correctly install the new Interfaces folder?

744

In all honesty Hardy, I cannot remember. I've had issues ever since I upgraded to BigSur. That said, PSX runs "nice and stable" with this one exception. I could try a new install over 10.0.02.

Hi Hardy

Brilliant, all done and working as expected.  :) I just started the process again, building up from PSX 10.0.02 as per your instructions.

Can't say enough how pleased I am with the TM-Warthog. Integrates with PSX really nicely. I'm not a gamer, so I'll just be using it to keep my scan current, but it was certainly worth the investment. Such a shame I can't get XView to work with PSX on my iMac, I think I will have to consider a windows PC.

If you have the time, could I just ask the following?  All my PSX files are on my iMac. Will I be able to load PSX from the original DVD disc to a Windows machine or will that require another purchase?

Regards,

Steve.

Hardy Heinlin

Hi Steve,

glad to read it works.

You need not re-install the original DVD. You can copy your existing Aerowinx folder directly from one computer to another even if the operating systems are different. PSX is a platform independent Java program. You just need Java on your computer. (Of course, your copies are only for yourself, not for other persons.)
