I haven't installed V5 yet, will be doing so tonight, but if you copy the external sim XML from V4 to  V5 can you run both of them on the same system without having to open up the config path editor each time? I'm assuming you can

Will be interesting to see if ExternalSim works at all but I am sure Mark is looking at this as he has previously mentioned.

I can confirm that ExternalSim works right out of the box in P3D V5.  :)
- copied the ExternalSim AddOn folder from the V4 AddOn folder to the V5 AddOn folder
- copied Simconnect.xml from V4 to V5 (in ..Roaming..Lockheed...Prepar3d vX..)
- copied PSX_747 model from v4 Simobjects/Ariplanes to V5 Simobjects/Airiplanes.
(The updated HD-reworked 747 for P3dv4 causes v5 to crash (probably due the non-DX12 lighting effects)

Very Nice!

Unfortunately can't get it to work. I did a clean install of ExternalSim and copied the add-on folder. But i get an error on p3D startup "Error accessing settings file. There is an error in XML document (1,1)"

Not sure how this config file will look after a clean install. Did you run the "P3D ExternalSim Configuration" (you did run the installer for this as well, right?), and 'configured' ExternalSim as per the chapter 1.1. in the manual?
The resulting file "PSX.NET.P3D.ExternalSim.xml" then needs to be copied from "Prepar3D v4 Add-ons / PSN.NET.P3D.ExternalSim" to "Prepar3D v5 Add-ons / PSN.NET.P3D.ExternalSim"

NM I was an idiot and had a typo in the xml  ::)

Ok, I gave into temptation and bought the upgrade to P3D v5. FSGRW is now updated to inject weather into v5, a lot of the v4 scenery can be transferred across and, as stated above, ExternalSim works just as fluently.

There is one big BUT, though...

As many have reported, the graphics performance of v5 is incredible, but I also run an instance of PSX on the same machine. PSX, which would happily run at 73 fps with v4, is now often showing only 10 or 12 fps. I presume this is because the increased performance of P3D v5 is coming from using bits of the processor(s) that it didn't access before and it's pushing PSX into 2nd place?

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced the same results.

I actually installed ( and already uninstalled ) P3Dv5 two days ago for beta testing a well known weather injector.

I, of course, tried ExternalSim, and it worked.

I was using default scenery only in P3dv5, and very conservative graphics settings because I run all in my old i5 2500 + 16GB + GTX 960 4GB rig.

In PSX I set 60/2 instead of 72 and I did experience oscillations between 60+ and 20- fps...

Lot's of stutters I didn't experience last time I had ( around 1 yr ago ) tested ExternalSim I believe with P3D v4.

Using DX12 P3dv5 requires a GPU with as much VRAM as you can buy, and a good processor too, although apparently just like before it doesn't like hyperthreading enabled if you own a processor that can run that way.

Make sure you: disable hyperthreadin in the BIOS and set 60/2 in the refresh settings of PSX.

Today LM released a patch that will suposedly solve some performance and instability issues.

You should try to patch your version and see how it performs now with ExternalSim...

I have now tested v5 as well, and yes, the performance improvement with relatively modern hardware is unbelievable!

I have a 4 core i7 4790k running at 4.6Ghz with nvidia Titan X Pascal, and I can run two viewports at a stable 50Hz with very high settings (very dense autogen and add-on scenery).

Also the new TrueSky technology makes the view look a lot more realistic with the atmospheric haze etc.

All in all, well worth the upgrade, and as others commented earlier, PSX.NET ExternalSim works great just like before.

and Externalsim adjusts the altitude of the aircraft while going over these slopes but not the nose up/down pitch, which looks kinda weird.

That's one of the advantages of using X-Plane / XView indeed...

But x-view is still not able to import some basic variables to the sim for VATSIM etc? Or has it changed from few years past.

What I am looking forward is seeing PSX combined with the upcoming MSFS2020 8)
