A Delta flight plunged 30,000 feet in minutes

I shamefacedly am using the same 'clickbait' as the media.  There seem to be an increasing number of these headlines on line.  The media plays these as potential catastrophic crashes, but in the cases that I've looked at, they are 'non-normal' for sure but seem to be standard responses to loss of cabin pressure problems at altitude.  They are controlled - although extreme rate - descents to get to safe altitudes not requiring oxygen.  The altitudes and rates reported for instance are pretty much what you get from following the QRH 'cabin altitude' procedures in PSX.  Very upsetting if you're in the cabin but not 'vomit comet' zero g stuff. 

My question is - are the number of these admittedly very stressful events really going up or just increasingly reported due to everyone in the cabin posting phone video on YouTube upon landing.  Anyone know if there are any statistics that show recent increases in cabin altitude problems?  That would be worrisome.
