Yes, the ignitor messages appear on the RB211s, but an ignitor message occurs when the ignitor isn't sparking (no effect due to dirt, ash etc.) while the ignitor is powered (commanded to operate).

If you use the situs I provided, severe and non-severe ignitor malfunctions are activated. Pulling an ignitor CB leads to different effects; that's not the same.

The Analysis page indicates which ignitor is powered -- 1, 2, or B (both) -- not whether it is actually sparking.

For the <100C EGT condition I added a 20 sec timeout because the books say there is a time condition as well; they don't say how long, just "time". 20 sec is my guess.

Hi all,

our sources don't exactly agree regarding the EGT cooling limits in the RB211 autostart program. There may be a typo in the one or the other text.

In one source, the following EGT limits are mentioned; and these are also used in the current PSX version:

Inflight starter assisted start:
When waiting for fuel-on conditions: Wait until EGT < 100°
When waiting for restart during windmilling: Wait until EGT < 100°

Inflight windmilling start:
When waiting for light-up: Cancel by timeout only when EGT < 50° (Typo? Maybe 150°?)
When waiting for restart during windmilling: Wait until EGT < 100°

Ground start:
When waiting for fuel-on conditions: Wait until EGT < 100°
Dry spin before restart attempt: Wait until EGT < 100° (plus time delay)

Another source mentions a value of 150°. Are there any hints from a third source? :-)

My FCOM says this for the RB211 in-flight start..

During in-flight flameout and/or start, the EEC reacts to no EGT rise or an engine fuel shutoff valve failed closed. If the EEC detects no EGT rise, it cuts off fuel and ignition for 30 seconds and then attempts unlimited restarts. If the EEC detects the EGT reaching the takeoff limit, fuel and ignition are cut off until the EGT reaches 150°C, and the EEC reapplies fuel and ignition for continuous restart attempts. The EEC allows the EGT to increase past the start limit to the takeoff limit before cutting off fuel. The autostart sequence is not automatically aborted unless the EEC detects an engine fuel shutoff valve failed closed. The EEC continues making start attempts until the engine stabilizes at idle or the Fuel Control switch is moved to CUTOFF.
