Wrong File Association

I tired to put PSX on my laptop for use with a network.  So I copied the files from my main PC and placed them in an Aerowinx folder on the laptop.  Problem is, when I tried to run it, the JAR file is associated with Adobe Acrobat Reader.  Java did not seem to be on the machine.  So I installed it, then changed the file association for .jar to open with Java Binary.  But the file I associated with it the the JAVA UPDATE file, not some form of Java.  So now I have a mess.  I tried uninstalling JAVA and then resetting default apps, but it goes back to an Adobe association.

How in God's name does one remove a file association in WINDOWS 10??  I have no idea how to proceed.

Okay I got it to open a dialoge box asking how I wanted to open the file type.  But it ony lets me select apps.  Java is not really an app and is not listed.  Now what??  What is listed is JAVA BINARY blah blh blah and it wont work, or gives an error as if it's trying to open the java installer file.  The error says Java not installed.  Now I can't even get the Java error to come up.  I double click the aerowinxstart icon, it asks me how I want to open the file, I click on the Java listing AND NOTHING HAPPENS.

Have you considered uninstalling Java and PSX, then installing Java first?

I don't want to send you down a rabbit hole, but when I first started with PSX, there were certain versions of Java that didn't work well (there's a long string on this subject somewhere on the forum). I finally settled on Java JDK Ver. 8, Update 31. I am running Windows 7 Pro and it's working great with that version. You can google older versions of Java and find the archives website. You have to open an Oracle account (it's free), but you can download Version 8. I don't know anything about Windows 10, except that I'm glad I don't have it. Maybe someone with Windows 10 can help you if this doesn't work.

I had the same problem with Windows 10.  After some registry hacks I finally got it to work but when I got a Java update it lost the association again so I just made a startup.bat file:

@echo off
java -jar aerowinxstart.jar

Create the file in the Aerowinx folder.  Hope this helps.
