for some reason people call my flying 'Unusual Attitude' - I call it 'short final'.

:)  Well then, why is auto-tilt +5 deg near ground? I assume +5deg means "up".

We are near ground during climb and descent/final and typically flying "slower", i.e. with increased angle of attack. So why is the radar tilted up even more?
To look ahead in direction of the flight path vector I would rather tilt the radar down a bit.
Where is the error in my thought?

Because at low altitudes you want to see the thunderstorms inside your take-off or go-around corridor. With +5 you get a radar sector of ca. -2 to +12 (the radar beam is not as thin as a laser beam). The aircraft attitude has no influence on the gyro controlled radar platform (if within 40°).

Generally, at all altitudes, you want to get as little ground clutter as possible and as much CB detection as possible. So you increase the tilt the lower you fly. Get the best vertical coverage between the tropopause and the ground.
