VisualPSX Suite upgrade to versions 6.6, 7.6 and 8.6, build 5821 released

This upgrade has two major features, version 8.6 specifically for P3D v3, and a rewrite of the offset processing for all versions.

You should now find that the automatic airborne offsets apply the correct runway offset in all cases, while reverse offsets applied on the ground in lock mode now work reliably.

I won't have time to fix any bugs that emerge (none I hope) for the next few months so keep the previous version just in case.

Happy flying!

Garry:

Thank-you so very much! Your suite has been indispensable for my PSX experience.  Your ongoing efforts to evolve and improve are greatly appreciated.

ADDED Dec 11, 2015- Garry, after several flights with your latest iteration of VisualPSX, I wanted to redouble my thanks.  The improvements in offset (and I believe in performance) are noticeable and appreciated.

ADDED Dec 12, 2015- Garry, today I had a couple of issues with the offset positioning correctly... Not sure how to reproduce so I will try next time and see if it was an anomaly (read user error) or I can find the steps to reproduce.
NOT AN ISSUE- see below...

Thanks as always.... C

Hi Garry,

thank you so much and Version 6.6 works perfect for me.

Your documentation states:

"The version 7 applications have been developed with Lockheed Martin Prepar3D version 2.5
(P3D v2) and only work with that version"

I have version 3.0.10.14945 of the P3D program.  Any plans to support that or later versions?

Joe

Good morning Gary

The version 8.6 for Prepar3D v3 works perfectly with me.
Thank you and regards, Joe

Good Morning Garry,
Thank you for your latest reincarnation.

Runways PSX is finding FSX as    " FSX_32"     As soon as I request "process" the program closes down.

Previous versions are fine.

Where am I (as ever!), going wrong

Cheers

Hi Derek,

I don't know why this should happen. It works fine for me.

Cheers,
Garry

Hi Derek,

Not sure if this will help but I have an over zealous virus checker (AVAST), which prevented the Visual PSX suite (incl. the above app) from running.  I had to insert some exclusions in AVAST and it worked.

Hope you get it sorted.

Kind regards

Working beautifully, here.

Huge thanks, Garry!     :)

My new download of V7 found P3Dv2_32 and _64 versions. I highlighted the _64 one and ran the runways.exe OK.
Visual PSX runs great for P3D V2.5 as normal.
Thx very much

v7.6 working wonderfully with p3Dv2.5 here Gary & the nasty 'thump' as the MLG leaves the RWY on rotation at some ARPTs (with elevation issues?) seems to have disappeared.

Many thanks for your continued efforts.

Hi Garry,

first off thanks for the new updates!.

I am running FSX standard edition and both VisualPSX and TrafficPSX continue to run perfectly, as they have through the previous versions.

However, RunwaysPSX is failing in the manner that Derek described earlier.  For me  the application will start processing and then suddenly stop after ~620 files have processed - no error messages - the application window just disappears. I then confirm in task manager that the .exe has ceased to run.

I have not changed anything in my FSX setup since I last ran RunwaysPSX, no new scenery has been added so I am a bit lost where to start troubleshooting.

I do believe from observations of the processing screen that the application is failing at a particular file (ie the  problem is occurring at a consistent point) - it just flashes through file names so quickly that it is hard to confirm that exactly.

Hi Scud, Derek and everyone,

I can't explain the behaviour you (Scud and Derek) are experiencing with RunwaysPSX. It doesn't happen on my systems and I won't be able to look for causes for a couple of months.

If you see both a _32 and _64 entry in RunwaysPSX choose the one that matches your CPU, either 32 or 64 bit.

The version number of the .vpx file has not changed since the previous build so you could use that file if you haven't changed anything or you could run the previous RunwaysPSX if you have. The new build of VisualPSX will be able to read it.

Another feature that I didn't include in the notes is that the offset processing now accepts only exact matches to the airport and runway names between FSX/P3D and PSX. Previously if there wasn't an exact name match it would try to find the best match from nearby airports and runways. This sometimes led to incorrect matching so I dropped the feature. You will now get either the correct offset or none.

Please keep reporting problems. I will monitor the forum from time to time although I won't be able to deal with any bugs for a while.

Cheers,
Garry

Garry-

Read your latest post about EXACT matches with interest... I was flying into VTBS (which strangely is not in P3D (?) and therefore had no runway ahead, despite the fact that I was firmly on the ILS.  Needless to say, consternation followed :).  P3D does have VTBD and I ended up there.... LESSON LEARNED- verify destination airport is in the sim prior to departure ;).

The "anomaly" I reported earlier, was therefore, completely explainable.... so far so good then, with 7.6.  Will test attempting to run RUNWAYS.exe and report back.

As ever, greatly obliged!

Hi Garry and everyone!

Today I tried out VisualPSX Suite for the very first time and I must say I'm very impressed. Great work, thank you so much, I really love this stuff.

@everyone else here: is there a possility to keep the FSX-window always on top (I do own the Steam edition)? I know, that there are a couple of programs which can do that, unfortunately they do not work with FSX-SE.

Again many thanks for a wonderfull add-on!!

Cheers,

Peter

Moi,
Quote from: Peteris there a possility to keep the FSX-window always on top
For that, I am using a handy little tool* called "WinOnTop v.2" (by one Detlev Schäfer) which will keep any Windows window on top, even without it having the focus (works at least up to and including Win7).

Quote from: Peterunfortunately they do not work with FSX-SE
But why would such tools not work with FSX-SE? Or are you perhaps running under Win8 or Win10 (which may or may not have different windows behaviour, I don't know)?

Cheers,
Martin

* I would of course supply a download link, but hesitate because the old reliable ones I knew of are gone, or redirect to places of uncertain repute. Many other links can be found, but lots of them look like clicktraps, or worse.

Hi martin!

Thank you so much for the WinOntop recommendation! I tried it out but it didn't work for me. Mayer it's because of Windows 10. However WinonToo works very well with other Win10 Applications. It seems, that ist's only FSX which dös not work on top...

Again many thanks for your help!

Cheers

Peter
