Hi Dear Experts, I need help again,

I have just recognized that my weather is not updating whatever I try. After loading situation/place the latest weather is from 08. of March.
My settings (I think) are correct, internet connection is OK, time/date indications current.
The "Set zones by flight..." is clicked in. There is a suspicious text next to it
(not sure what it means) saying "Disk Downloading:" where the value has been stuck at 9% for days now.
Oh yes,and I have installed the latest betas.

Any help is appreciated,

Tamas

Hi Tamas,

I typed your "problem sentence" into Google and did read there (more or less...) this problem (?) on the Steampowered.com site.

So, could it be a problem with your (eventually ?) FSX-steam-edition-scenery-generator ?

Dear Hessel,

Many thakns for the hint, but:

1. I do not have FSX Steam, however I use FSX for visual.
2. The text "Disk Downloading" is WITHIN the PFX Instrucor weather/planet page.
3. I did use this same setup without problem before 08. of March.

Cheers,

Hi Again,

Today my problem is solved (by itself). When I switched on my computer and started PSX... voila: the weather and disk is updated by the book!
The bad news is that my VisualPSX lost contact with FSX an PSX. Simple does not work, just searching for connection. Grounded again!
Frankly, I am getting fed up with this level of unstable behaviour (lost layout, screwed up USB setteings, etc). Every time I start my computer I face a new problem and a lot of troubleshooting work. I just hope that it is my personal bad luck.
Getting tired and eager to fly at last! (I've just secretly visited my PMDG 737-700 in my hangar, beeing on the verge of opening the dusty L1 door.)

It really does seem that your machine has unstable hardware or OS software in some way. Especially losing layouts is highly uncommon.

I suggest to start out at the lowest possible level: no weather and no FSX link. If that works reliably, add weather. This is still 100% PSX native and if it has problems, you have OS problems for sure.

Connecting FSX, despite its luring attractiveness, is very complex and depends on far too many things to be considered "easy". You need cooperation of all bits and pieces in your whole system.

Ha! I beg you to reconsider!
For that would be what they call "jumping from the frying pan into the fire"...

What you describe is exactly my experience, too -- but with FSX. Always something. ("We fiddle while you fly.")

Whereas I practically never have had these things in PSX (and that includes several dozens of alpha and beta versions which I ran as a test team member. There were of course all kinds of "issues", but never any of this specific type of "irrational instability").

The trick is to run (for a while at least) "pure" PSX, without any fancy add-ons, in particular without FSX as scenery generator.
Then, when you have your motivation back, you may perhaps wish to try again.

Good luck! ;)

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Tamas,

I don't think the problem lies in PSX.

"Lost layout?" -- What do you mean? Saved layouts don't get lost.

"screwed up USB setteings" -- I told you in another thread how to switch on your wireless USB stuff, and you replied positively. This wasn't a PSX fault; it was just a matter of a switch setting.

"Disk Downloading ... stuck at 9%" -- I guess your computer wasn't able to download more than a certain amount of bytes of a file. A METAR world file is typically 1.4 MB in size. Looks like there was a restriction by your Internet Provider or in your Windows setting.

Nevertheless, I understand your frustration.

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for your replies. Martin, I've read it, I will consider it seriously...:-)
I think my problem is with this FSX/PSX/VisualPSX setup. I have a powerful, high-end computer setup here with high speed internet connection. Never had major problems running even the most demanding FSX add-on.
Yes, I would run and fly the PSX without any fancy software. I was "forced" to use FSX for visual to be able to taxi the 747 (it was perfect when it worked). I don't mind the PSX simplified visual (got exceptionally good imagination) but without the simplest taxi clue with the help of only a couple of floating lights in the murk, without depth perception...?
I even have difficulties just to remain on RWY centerline during takeoff.
I always wondered how on earth you use the push-back function? You can't even tell that the aircraft is moving! Perhaps I missed something.
Any tips, good practice, bright ideas on ground maneuvering with the basic visuals are appreciated.
(Sorry for my nuisance posts, it is because I'm fascinated with the PSX, would be hard to abandon.)

Cheers,

Tamas
