No TCAS aircraft tracking (X-Plane)

Hello,

I've been testing for a few days now with no resolution -- I am not notified of AI aircraft, or VATSIM traffic on the ND, despite having visual confirmation in XP.

I have used the latest XP10 release.
I am on the ground with TA turned on the transponder.
The traffic button is enabled on the EFIS.
Traffic is set to 'externally controlled' in PSX.
XView is set to show XP traffic.

I disable Xsquawkbox prior to using XP built in AI.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I would like confirmation if this is an issue with my setup, XP AI Aircraft, XSquawkbox, XView or PSX.

Thank you.

Ben

Ben,

if I have saved the option to show XPlane traffic in PSX I have to turn it on & off again in the menu before it actually works.
I have now saved the XView config without any traffic option and turn show XPlane traffic on when I'm in the sim.
I'm using X-Ivap, not Xsquawkbox though that shouldn't make a difference.

Hope that helps,
Bernd

Thanks Berndo,

I had to reclick it on and off several times in XView before traffic in XSB could be displayed. Traffic also seems to disappear after 5 NM.

I also tried fiddling around with the PSX options, seems to be a glitch there -- when I click on 'High conflict random loop' traffic appears on the ND, then to off - traffic disappears, then back to 'Externally controlled' traffic from the high conflict random loop appears again.

I can't get this to work with XP AI traffic, will experiment further.

That's not a glitch.

"Externally controlled" simply means that PSX doesn't change the traffic vectors, so that add-ons can steer the traffic.

"Off" means traffic doesn't exist.

Reselecting "Externally controlled" means that traffic continues from the last position on with the last used vector -- until an add-on injects different data.

OmniAtlas

Thanks for clearing that up Hardy.

I will experiment with IVAP -- seems there has been some issues with xsquawkbox and TCAS, as also reported on the xplane org forum.

OmniAtlas

Update -- IVAP also presents the same issue with no TCAS notification despite showing traffic on the internal X-IVAP TCAS radar

In addition the program will not track you on IVAO, I think this may have to be due to the GS bug I read about? IVAP gives a message about not logging ?hours because you have been idle.

Ben,

I see the traffic on the PSX side after ticking the XView option as mentioned before.

At the moment GS can't be injected into X-Plane, but Mike has been in contact with Ben Supnik and it will be allowed in one of the next patches.

Regarding the 'idle too long' you just have to request WX with the help of the X-Ivap menu or switch views in X-Plane. That resets the idle timer.

I'd be interested if the state of the strobe light is correctly applied for you. Cause it isn't for me - every other light (Landing, Taxi, Nav, etc) is correctly shown in X-Plane, only the Strobe stays off no matter what.

Hi all,

When using Realtraffic, I can see traffic in PSX but no traffic in Xplane.

Hi Berndo, I have clicked he checkbox multiple times with no such luck.

I do not use the X-ivap weather injection because it slows down XP...I stick with the default XP weather rendering (XVIEW weather is disabled in the menu), and Maxx Clouds.

I believe PSX is operating correctly (it works fine with Vatsim with FSX/p3d). xivap displays traffic correctly on its own TCAS and visually in the sim.

The injection issue may lie with XView which hopefully Mike can give his opinion on or provide a fix.

I will check if strobe light issue tonight. Update -- lights do not strobe.

Thank you.

Hi Guys,

I have checked through these issues and I cannot reproduce the problems that are mentioned above.  The strobe light switch operates the strobe light as it should.  You should make sure that you are using HDR rendering in X-Plane and using PSX Plane as your aircraft.

X-Plane AI traffic shows up on the PSX ND if you check the XView "Draw XP traffic" box and in PSX check the Externally Controlled box in the PSX traffic tab (Situation, human, traffic).

I have a VATSIM account but whenever I have logged on there appears to be nobody about.  Where is a good place to put the aircraft to get something out of VATSIM?

Hi Mike!

It's been quite long since I last logged into VATSIM, but I seem to remember that EGLL and EDDF are usually very busy, mostly from 1700z till 2200z.
KSEA rwy 34 seems sometimes quite busy too... as it's FSX default startup location!
Sure you'll get some real traffic there...

@OmniAtlas, thanks for verifying the Strobe issue.

@mikeindevon
I know that it should work, I posted that already in your XView thread.
It baffles me why the strobes don't do what they should do and only on the PSX Plane.

Here are 3 pictures:

Outside with Datrefs, Nav Lights showing - no strobes
Showing the plane selection
My rendering options

It would be awesome if we could find out the reason that the strobes work for you and not for two of us.

Cheers,
Bernd

Hi Mike, KLAX is usually pretty busy.

You can check VATSIM traffic here -- http://vatview.com/vatview.php

Hi Mike, thanks for checking. When I use PSX or Realtraffic aircraft do not display in Xplane. But it does display in PSX.

OmniAtlas

Reinstalled again, this time I put the 64 bit xview module in my XPlane plugins directory, and not the one under the aircraft hierarchy.

Also reinstalled PSXPlane.

Tried again with AI aircraft; saw 3 flying near the airport, caught up to them, only had 1 TCAS blip even though all 3 were visible. Even had a TCAS alert warning.

Mike, what version of XPlane are you running?

Does 'Number of traffic aircraft' have any bearing on the TCAS blips when AI aircraft is setup in Aircraft & Situations? I am unable to enter this entry in the menu, and have to do so via text edit.

GodAtum - RealTraffic does not inject on this end, but blips are visible on the PSX ND. When I have RealTraffic runnign I enable "Draw PSX traffic" in the XView menu.

Thank you.

Hi Ben,

are you sure the traffic was within the +/-2700 feet vertical window of TCAS?

You can extend it to 7000 ft -- see "Above-below selector" on page 489.

Hi, I did do that. So you are still not getting planes in xplane even after your full re-install?

I have attempted to to switch the ND to show Above and Below targets using the selector but still no traffic.

The injection of traffic seems to be quite sporadic with it only working with some fiddling around of settings.

Quote from: BerndoIt would be awesome if we could find out the reason that the strobes work for you and not for two of us.

I have checked the code and the dataref being driven for the strobes is indeed:
"sim/cockpit2/switches/strobe_lights_on"

It would appear from your links that this was being set correctly by XView so the problem must lie in the X-Plane end.  You should also be able to change the value of this variable in DRE and see the strobe start and stop flashing without using PSX or XView.

I note that you are not using the same skin as the one I delivered with PSX Plane.  Can you try my skin and see if you get the same problem.  Some of the light textures are hidden in the skins - or it might be that your skin has "painted over" the strobe.  These plane models are very complex beasts - have a look at 747_Wings.obj, .png, .dds, etc to see what I mean.

Mike

Berndo

Mike,

thanks for checking.
I tried it with your skin/paint and others - sadly the strobes are working on none of them.

If it is on the X-Plane side, it may be GPU related. I have an Nvidia card, do you use an AMD?

Cheers,
Bernd
