A thought on display technologies

Hi Hardy,

The non-LCD version displays in the real thing are CRTs that are drawing lines steered by the symbol generators by moving the focussed electron beam onto the surface mask of the display. This results in a quite elegant (in my opinion anyway) effect of blending lines with each other. The LCD variants don't do that. I would have thought that is not too hard to emulate by using alpha blending when drawing the elements onto any of the displays.

Close inspection of the displays however reveals that regardless of whether the LCD or CRT variants are in use, the last stroke overpaints any previous strokes.

Have you ever made experiments with that? Or are you using the alpha channel for the display brightness emulation (along with what seems a slight widening of the stroke)?

Just some thoughts, nothing that needs immediate attention...

Hi Balt,

I know, but adding thin black outlines around each stroke would have a masssive impact on the frame rate because much more graphic rendering tasks would have to be performed. Therefore it's not implemented. It's just a microscopic detail and the costs are just too high.

Oh I agree, it's a complex and detail obsessed observation. Just making sure you're not getting bored. ;)
