Hi,

How well does PSX work with touchscreen monitors? Is it easy to use? What about things like multi-position rotary knobs?

PSX is optimized for mouse and keyboard, but many people report success with touch screens.

Most actions are "click here" and tapping just left or right of a control is easy to learn and to perform. For a large setup, panning and zooming is not what you need, and these actions are not going to be in your way as they have been largely attached to the right mouse button.

There may be the odd "long touch" that typically will activate a right-click but this can be disabled in most operating systems.

My setup is mainly touchscreen and they are a joy to use.
I have ACER monitors and they are working perfectly both on WIN7 and WIN8.

Only thing I've had a little trouble with on my Dell laptop touch screen is the 'rotate and hold' functions such as APU start and fire handles - a little twitchy.  Otherwise it's pretty functional - the CDU/FMC is a joy to use zoomed up to ~actual size.

I am dreaming up ways to setup a 5 panel touch screen cockpit

3 touch LCDs for the MIP
1x for the pedestal
1x for the overhead

Pierre Theillere

Hello OmniAtlas!

I'm also using a touchscreen: in fact I'm not really sure it's so useful for MIP, but it's very nice for overhead (that's what I use it for), and probably for center pedestal.
For the MCDUs, you may opt for "PSX Remote" on tablets, already available on iPads, and currently in development for Androïd.

Yes, the plan is to have several LCDs integrated with 'tactile' components -- CDU, MCP, Yoke, Throttle are essential physical components I believe and this is how several professional manufactures have setup.

I am also planning to integrate with a CastAR https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/technicalillusions/castar-the-most-versatile-ar-and-vr-system

for the visual system.

Hi all,

Do you know what LCD screen size would be adequate to setup something like this?

27" LCD?

Hey,

Looks like 19" Square monitors to me. I initially looked at square monitors but the biggest I could find were the FlexScan S2133 21" monitors. 3 32" LED TV's could look pretty nice and close to scale too.

Yes, square LCDs would be the preferred, but looks like the market is going widescreen!

32" LCD TV could do, but then there is the added cost of a touch screen overlay, which do not come cheap at that size.

ACER sells a 27" touch screen at 399 USD
