Hi all,

Im having troubles to connect to Visual PSX using FSX. I followed the instructions step by step and I run FSX and PSX on the same computer. When I start Visual PSX it states " Attempt to connect to FSX through SimConnect failed). What am I doing wrong? Perhaps Simconnect is not properly configured?

Any hints? Thanks!
Nic

Hi Nic,

Probably you omitted one step or placed one of the SimConnect files in the wrong place or used the wrong ip address in the cfg or xml file.

Cheers,
Garry

Hi Garry,

thanks. How do I get the IP address of FSX? The problem seems to be related to the connection to FSX via Simconnect. I never used Simconnect before.

Another thing is that I can't run dotNetFX35setup. When I double click on it nothing happens...

Do you need to run dotNetFx35setup.exe?

Run this if neither Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
Client Profile is installed on any computer that will run one or more of the VisualPSX Suite applications.

To find out if either is installed, open the control panel and select "Add or Remove Programs" (in Win7 or Win8).  If the program does nothing when you click on it the program might already be installed.

Run Simconnect.msi.

Run this on each computer that will run one or more of the VisualPSX Suite applications and on the computer that will run FSX. This will install a copy of the SimConnect.dll in each computer's global assembly cache. XP) or "Programs and Features" (in W7 or W8).

Edit and install SimConnect.xml.

Open SimConnect.xml with Notepad and change the IP address in the line
192.168.0.21
to show the IP address of the computer running FSX.
Copy or move SimConnect.xml to the computer running FSX and place it in this folder:
. If XP - C:\\Documents and Settings\\\\Application Data\\Microsoft\\FSX
. If W7 or W8- C:\\Users\\\\ AppData\\Roaming\\Microsoft\\FSX
where means the name of the user account running FSX.

If you are running FSX and VisualPSX on the same PC use 127.0.0.1 as the IP address in place of the 192.168.0.21 shown above.

Then place a copy of the SimConnect.xml in folder as discussed above.  You are probably looking at your FSX folder in the Programs(x86) folder.  That's the wrong place.  You need to place it in the address provided above.

Cheers,

Jon

Note: 192.168.0.21 is just an example address. You need to find out the IP address of the computer running FSX by looking at the network properties of it, or by opening a CMD terminal (start >> run >> CMD) and typing "ipconfig".

ONLY if you use VisualPSX and FSX on the SAME computer you can use the catch-all IP address 127.0.0.1 instead. This one always points at the computer you use it on.

Many computers have been set up using automatic (also called DHCP) IP address setup. This is fine unless you want to point at it, because it changes over time. It is easier to update the network properties from automatic to manual and give the machine an IP address that does not exist on your network.

All this @%#@%$#@ is inherent to computer networking and has nothing to do with either FSX, SimConnect, VisualPSX, or PSX. Just learn it, you'll need it everywhere.

Hi John,

thanks a lot! You helped me out! It was "If you are running FSX and VisualPSX on the same PC use 127.0.0.1 as the IP address in place of the 192.168.0.21 shown above" which I did not follow before. I think the manual does not mention this..

Hello,

It seems (or I think) that I could connect VisualPSX, FSX and PSX. I have to admit it was not really easy !  I am trying to figure how to make things work visually. Is the PSX panel supposed to show up on FSX or the FSX scenery is supposed to show up on PSX ? I am using the same laptop. Any screenshot would help. Only God knows what I have done :>

Your help is greatly appreciated !

I'll leave the details to the experts, but just to turn you into the right direction:
If you mean (as I read your question, perhaps wrongly) by "show up" that FSX becomes part of the PSX window (or vice versa), this is not at all the case.

PSX does not run, as some kind of "gauge", inside FSX; nor does FSX replace the original "windshield view" inside PSX.

Both applications still run in their normal own windows, respectively (on one and the same computer and/or monitor; or on different computers and/or monitors).

What happens is that they are now connected via VisualPSX, and PSX now "drives" what scenery you see in FSX. FSX is thus now reduced to a "dumb" scenery generator, but is still running in the normal FSX window.

You can of course resize the windows in the normal manner and arrange them so that they "make visual sense" (FSX window = scenery = outside would be situated above PSX window = cockpit instruments etc.).
But they are still the normal separate windows.

Martin
