Just because I am bad at calculations, here's the breakdown.

At 480,000 lbs = 218 tonnes, Vref is 133 knots.  Assume a safe bank angle of 30 degrees (1.2 g load factor).

Turn radius is (V*V) / (11.26*tan(bank)) in feet.

(133*133) / (11.26*tan(30)) =
17689 / (11.26*0.58) =
17689 / 6.5 =
2721 ft =
2721/6076 nm =
0.45 nm

So a full circle can be flown in less than a nautical mile between mountain walls if you are spot-on in entering the turn.

QuoteWhen you have flown PSX for some minutes, and then return to PS1, you will laugh about PS1 ...

Great thanks,

I can remember how frustrated i was with PS1.3 for not being able to touch down near the center line or even on the runway, after 50+ attempts in calm weather.
It might just be my poor virtual piloting skills though.

I am just trying to do the Kathmandu approach with PS1.3. Hopefully I will laugh soon about ;) BTW I have seen on youtube are some videos about PS1.3 too. Quality is ok I think.
Have a nice sunday

Hi hoppie!

Hoppie... I guess that the correct formula is (V^2) / (g * tan (bank)) for a coordinated turn, so it's really g and not N (N=g/cos(bank)) that comes
For Mark70: yep, you'll fully be able to nail the centerline, do perfect de-crabbing. What definitely helps for that are both crispness of the graphics (e.g. vector things in PFD), and smoothness in the animations (stutter-free outside visuals, flight instruments) unlike what you had (have?) to cope with in some other sims.

After starting the video I hear constant an abnormal noise . It  remembers me  like a "beating of the heard".
Any explanation for it?

Horst

Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers

Pierre: the 11.26 factor lumps all unit conversions into one convenient figure. Of course g (9.81 m/s^2) is included in there, as are meters versus feet, knots versus m/s, etc.

Could be perhaps the windshield whiper

Walter Kranl

Hi Horst,

Maybe it is the sound of the windshield wiper.

I tried; it definitely is the windshield wiper. At LO it runs at about 1.2 Hz. It is exactly the same sound. Stops and starts with the wiper. You also see the wipers on the windshield being in sync with the sound.

Here the formula's:

http://www.pprune.org/tech-log/159674-radius-turn-formula.html

I had to change some comma's (  ,  ) into semicolons (  ;  ) to get it working.

So:

=ROUNDUP(POWER(D2;2)/((TAN(F2/(180/PI())))*68625);3)

At 127 TAS and bank angle 25 it seems to be about a radius of 0,5 Nm,
so needed space in Insbruck ... of:

~1 Nm + the wingspan ... ;)

Hessel

@Kurt: Did you jump out in Kopenhagen after the engine 1 and 2 dropout :)  ?

edit: typo.

It seems in the cockpit you can not hear the sound of the landing gear and the moving of the flaps. As a normal passenger you can clearly hear it. I tried hard with the headphones to hear anything, but nothing, no bumping of the gears. Interesting.

Hardy Heinlin

Gear touchdown or retraction/extension?

The gear retraction/extension sound is clearly audible.

The touchdown bump is not audible in the video because my landing was so soft.

The smooth operator, oh lálá!  :P

Pierre Theillere

Hi folks!

Aaaah... of course, you'll get a "bump" sound when NOT doing a kisslanding: I just shot some approaches, including the Thessaloniki (overweight in the storms), and I went back to Earth at c.a. 950 fpm... even prior to getting the analysis results I definitely could feel my "landing" (if I dare call it such) was rather raw!
Sometimes with PSx you're really going to be happy that's only a virtual world...

Sorry, I can not hear the gear retraction nor the extension and I hear no sound from the flaps. For example at 1:48 I think you should hear something from the gear retraction. But for me there is only the normal sound from the engines. Perhaps I am too old to hear it. :)

falconeye

Ah, at 9:50 I can hear something like a additional wind noise. This could be caused by the gear extension. But I cannot hear the extension itself.(The noise caused by the hydraulic pumps)

jtsjc1

Awesome Hardy I got my yoke and throttles ready!

The flaps should not be heard from the cockpit in any event. What you hear as a passenger is very different from what you hear up front, especially when we're talking of the 747.

Alex

Avi

falconeye,

Why do you expect to hear the Flaps Power Packages (FPP)?
The FPPs are in the main body landing gear wheel well. You may hear them in the cabin but they are very far from the cockpit.
It is a big aircraft after all  ;)

Too low to jump I think :) i need 300m+ for survivability - biggest problem though is avoiding hitting the aircraft itself   - need a 727 with rear stairs for it to happen :)

Btw nice ground rumbling sound in the video, - very impressive on my sub ...
