Same here. What everybody suspected to happen is now becoming reality. Especially in the freight business, twins become the standard unless there is a problem with the load dimensions and the nose door is required or when there is a volume problem (flightdeck above main deck gives higher volume capacity for similar weight).

Jeroen Hoppenbrouwers

H'bout a Jumbo twin? Same basic construction but drop two engines? Just a beer discussion, you don't just drop engines, but would it have value?

I hope Boeing succeeds on this one.

I want to feel 4 levers in my fist.

With the 777 it seems you feel none, since it's A/T engaged from takeoff until Rollout, including during Manual Flight. That's sad in my opinion :/

You are free to disconnect to maintain proficiency :-). That's what Boeing says as well in their official and legally approved bible (FCTM).

On the other hand, when it gets rough (I'm talking typhoon arriving rough), it's pretty awesome to have that system doing a superb job knowing you have either +300 persons or 100 tons of freight stored behind your back, paying for a +100000 $/€ costing flight, and your personal goal is to stay out of the daily news...

Hardy, no worries, we still have some authentic 146's flying daily!

Quote from: Hardy HeinlinI want to feel 4 levers in my fist.

I believe that "Captain Tarmack" once said that the only reason he flies with 4 engines is because they don't make an airliner with 5 engines.  (grins)
Best wishes,

Eric Ernst? I thought he was a 767-guy? *g*

John Golin

I believe Captain Tarmak was Mel Ott, who passed away a few years ago...

Although Boeing officials are rolling over one and another to deny there is no relation with this 777x fact is 747-8 production rate reduced again:
