Hi Hardy

I have been trying to find out what is the font named used for the FMC?
Don't worry Im not trying to make a simulator simply just some material for teaching...

Have a nice weekend

Hi Lasse,

I don't think it has a name, unless somebody carried it over to the print business and true type stuff for artistic purposes. After all, there are just lines drawn by a cathode ray beam.

If you need an FMC font for a class presentation, Martin E. or Jeroen may have a hint for you :-)

Cheers,

We've called it Aerowinx FMC Large and Small   :-D

The classic FMC font is a stroke font -- the real CRT displays literally painted symbols on a florescent screen with an electron beam that was steered as a pen, not as a matrix. This gives these symbols the peculiar shape, such as a small circle instead of a dot.

More modern MCDUs with LCD displays use matrix fonts much like anything else these days, and it depends on their design whether they are stored as stroke fonts with a postprocessing renderer, or stored as highres bit maps.

I've seen many LCD fonts and the are basically all standard and simple. Nothing comes close to the real CRT stroke font.

P.S.: That "Aerowinx FMC" font is not used in PSX. PSX uses pure stroke with variable, brightness dependent thickness.

Hi Jeroen and Hardy

Thanks for the answers guys....;-)

I actually got inspired by your reply Hardy to look on Jeroen's home page yesterday... Close enough answers found there of the TT fonts mentioned. Should have looked there to start with... :-D
Its just for classroom examples so I can live with 95% visual accuracy for the numbers Im changing...

Keep up the energy for the extremely high quality work for the PSX.
