Next stop... DC.
Three days to absorb the fine details of the newly cooked up DO-178 rev C.
Two evenings (Tuesday the 26th, Wednesday the 27th of June) to browse around.
It was twelve years ago that my wife (then girlfriend) and I had a very pleasant meeting with a PS1 fan in DC. And my archive even provided the address. Let's see!

TONS of stuff in the DC area to see and do, certainly including the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, but it's probably not open at night... Anyway, a zillion great restaurants and similar facilities. The politicians and lobbyists really know how to live. -------------- Does your software have to undergo arduous FAA documentation, testing and certification procedures? I don't understand what has to clear such hurdles and what isn't so bad to certify and what doesn't have to be FAA certified. Obviously, things like a rudder drive mechanism modification would have to jump through a lot of "hoops", but what about your products/software? _______________ Best wishes,
Phil Bunch

Yup, the full FAA monty -- but not yet at levels A or B. As satcom radios are going to be allowed as primary for safety-critical ATC communications, we have to move from D to C, and this requires a lot of work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DO-178B soon to be replaced by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DO-178CNote: the standard rev letter (B, C) has nothing to do with the design assurance level (A..E). Back to N194UA. Showing photos of the jerry rig with Mickey Mouse alligator clips that made it work would not increase faith in the industry. Wires dangling from the flight deck hatch down into the equipment center... and all to get the pilots crystal clear satcom audio without annoying 400 Hz hum. A Radio Shack isolation transformer dangling from the ceiling. It works in practice. Now trying to find out why it should work in theory. Jeroen

Quote Now trying to find out why it should work in theory. In theory, in a symmetric, balanced wire pair, the inversed hum amplitude and the non-inversed hum amplitude eliminate each other :-) !-i
