Real 747-400 Operations Manual

I was looking to snag a real 747-400 Operations Manual and they certainly can be found, e.g..

https://www.ebay.com/itm/333568995329?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&fromMakeTrack=true

But my question to you folks is: is this worth it? Is there a better source - or even a better manual - for learning more of the innards of this beauty that is sadly fading in the real world?

Ton van Bochove

This is not a operational manual but a description of the systems. If you want to learn about the 744 it worth buying it but the aerowinx manual will probably tell you the same thing and is more up to date

I happen to have that exact same manual. Bought it many many years ago. When I was still buying everything and anything that had Boeing 747-400 on it.

To Ton's point, it is a system manual and a fairly high level one at that too. On the introduction page it says

This document presents a general technical description of the Boeing 747-400

Its well over 300 pages.

Find yourself a proper AOM and with PSX manual everything in here will be covered, and in more detail too.
But it is nice to have!

Ukwildcat74,

You can buy real (scanned and printed) AOMs at ESSCO aircraft, for example.

Another option would be to purchase the PMDG 747-400, they have a contract with Boeing and provide digital AOMs (FCOM 1+2 and QRH) together with their product. It's one of the cheapest ways to obtain copies in a legal way.

Best regards,
Dirk
