what is meant by an "acars Broker"?

Is this the acars server?  Does it want a fully qualified name or is it happy with just an IP address?  Thank you in advance!

The Broker is what nowadays would be called the Switch or Router in PSX installations. In the old days of PS1.3, with networking being alien to the majority of flight simulators, the Broker was my data interchange between all modules. Every module connected to the Broker, so everything could talk the same way.

To run my old ACARS software, you only need the Broker if you want to connect something to something in your sim setup.

I never made a distinction between raw IPv4 address and host name. Both work.
