Simulating FAN icing

Hi Hardy,

Does Aerowinx simulate FAN icing?

Cheers,

Hi Blake,

it simulates engine icing in general when in icing conditions, and it may cause flame-outs during takeoff if you don't use the airport de-icing simulation within a reasonable time frame before the takeoff.

Hi Hardy,

I just completed cold weather ops in the B767 sim with the CF6-80C2B6F. We tried a take-off without a run-up on the runway, the left engine was suffering from ice shedding after 70% N1 to T.O N1 set. We experienced serious control issues, I had to use the tiller to maintain control until the ice shed off the left engine fan after approximately 5 seconds. Great to see why you need to complete the cold weather supplemental procedure before rolling down the runway, unless you want a directional control issue on a slippery runway.

Cold weather supplemental procedure (Same as the B747 manual):

If anti-ice is required and 3C degrees or below.

Taxi: >60 N1 for 30 seconds every 30 minutes.

Take-off: >60N1 for 30 seconds then push the TO/GA.

Inflight in icing conditions: >70% N1 for 10-30 seconds every 10 minutes.

Is this the de-icing simulation?

Blake

No, this is a manually increased thrust for 30 seconds.

The airport de-icing service is this: https://www.ecosia.org/images?q=airport+de-icing+service

Yes, set 60% N1 manually, then start the clock and time for 30 seconds. Then push the TO/GA switch, three pumps of the clock to time the take-off thrust limit.

Hardy Heinlin

Yes, that's the one de-icing method.

The other de-icing method -- that I mentioned in my first post -- is provided by the airport and costs a lot of money.
