I wonder how long it will take to appear somewhere in software? Maybe it has been there already for a while?

Google Maps has it halfway construction:

Wow, that looks more like a fantasy golf hole in a computer sports game than an actual airport. Very beautiful scenery. Let's hope no landslides bury the threshold.

Beautiful airport.

At an elevation of 4600ft with the runway measuring only 5577×98 ft, it seems like a fun challenge if/when some P3D scenery gets released (so long as Hardy never gets bored and decides to implement runway weight-bearing capacities).

That brown uphill side at the other end along the runway looks like it ends directly at the runway concrete. If you land there, your left wing will almost touch the hill to the left, it seems ...

Thanks for that Jeroen. I've been to Gangtok IRL several times... looking forward to returning virtually soon :).

Looks like great fun in a Twotter or maybe even a baby Boeing.

The concept, it seems, has been copied over from Chinese Aviation which has a history of airports sitting on top of flattened mountain tops.

All pretty challenging to fly into, I guess.

p.s.
Just to re-open a year-old-and-closed topic ... these airports would be the reason to have the option of adding custom airports to PSX   :-)  (They are all domestic-AIP-only airfields, mostly used by A320s.) If there is a chance ...  (and, yes, scenery for FSX/P3D does exist for these airports.)

e.g. Hechi (ZGHC)

or Jiuzhaigou (ZUJZ)

or Wushan (still under construction)

or Panzihihua (ZUZH)

Look for them all in X-Plane 11...

These airfields should be there ( ? ) and for those using the XP visuals port, it's probably possible to try to land, and then takeoff, from each one :-)

I wonder - does XP11 have Chinese domestic-only airports in the default database? Need to check when I'm back home...

Well, domestic I really don't know, but at least as of 11.20 :

Thanks for the pointer re:China airport in XP11.20.

Of course, the 8 major airports as default are already amazing for a default scenery. It even includes the new runway and new terminal at ZUCK / Chongquing - something that is not available for the FSX world.

But to my amazement, XP11 now even has the hundreds of airports from the domestic AIP included (little detail, though). That is simply not easily available for FSX/P3D since this dataset is not included in Jeppesen/Navigraph/any-other-western-Database. Some airports are missing (ZUJZ among them, unfortunately, also ZURK), but ZUZH and ZGHC are there as is ZUNZ.

So getting the XP11-PSX up running will be one of my next projects. :-) (After the familiarization with the 747-8i is completed... )

Markus

p.s.
And I'd love to have those Chinese domestic airports in PSX :-)

From the 'way-back-machine'.  KAVX (Airport in the Sky on Catalina Island) had me buying updates of FS and California scenery for decades.

I still like our national pride:

At least it is above sea level!
